Need ideas for the ideal photo studio......

I am remodeling a house and it will serve as my studio.

It has a super back yard though I wish the trees were bigger. This will be good for model shots and senior pics.

The basement will be the studio. I am thinking that wallpaper would look a lot classier than paint in a basement. Nice thing about paint is that I could literally create(paint) a background as needed.

I am thinking a koi pond with a wood bridge and cool lights would make for some magnificent evening photos.

I have done 99% of my photography on location. Never gave much thought to studio design until now. It just came up.

What cool studio ideas have you seen or know of?

I am very handy, have a small woodworking shop.

Waterbed.

Chicks dig waterbeds.

You'll score for sure.
I am so picky it is rediculous. Scoring is really not the object here.

It does have 5 bedrooms though 2 are small. I am thinking of outfitting one of them for discrete photography though I do not do full nudity.

what sort of equipment do you use?

ive started messing around with taking photos a lot lately, mostly live music photos but a lot of other things aswell

i use a canon EOS10 SLR with 35mm-75mm or 100-300mm lenses and a canon powershot s50 digital camera.

We meet again on the photo front…

I would go with paint. Just in case you do want to paint your backdrops later on.

The classy look? That’s fine of you want to impress your clients on the first visit but you can still have it look classy by decorating the interior. Wallpaper is not really the thing that decides if it is classy or not. It’s a studio. If they are walking into a nice house then the studio will not really turn their opinions.

I hope you mean “outside” and not inside?!?

“I have done 99% of my photography on location. Never gave much thought to studio design until now. It just came up.”

Then it’s a very very good chance that in the future you will be taking your photos 90%+ of the time “on location” even with the studio. You may want to consider a more functional room that you can just drop a muslin or canvas into.

Studios are damn limited.

I use medium format, 35mm, and professional digital equipment. Have about 25 lenses.

Lots of video gear as well.

It is not the equipment in my opinion. The difference in the image quality that $2000 or $5000 buys you is generally minimal. But you do need to spend a few thousand to have versatility. I have spent about $30,000 over the years.

I am looking for ideas from people that have seen something cool in a studio they visited.

My sister-in-law is a child photographer and redid her whole yard just for that purpose. If you pm me I will give you her website info and maybe she can fill you in

My idea for your studio is take pictures of lots of girls, cater to women, and post up TB!!!!
I wish I felt comfortable working with men on a one on one basis but I don't.

I lose a lot of income saying no to guys.

I doubt that I could get away with working with a lot of women. People get upset if I give my card to an attractive woman. Just my reality I suppose.

We have got to be the most sexually uptight developed country on the face of the planet. Hands down.

Funny how the young bucks hear studio and think............"score with chicks."

Us slightly older guys think of ways to maximize income.....not headaches. :)

I find working with people very frustrating. Working with nudes are a friggin nightmare. First the wife would bitch. Second, models want $$$. If you get someone who will do it for free then you have to deal with their bullshit.

Nudes, black and white and maybe a sepia tone.

Animals are always happy to pose for you. Trees don’t blink when the flash goes off. It’s been about 14 years since I really shot photos and I think I lost the touch. Something is not right with my results. More composure then anything. Rusty?

Looking for a nice priced 3CCD digital camcorder. Any recommendations?

I know what you mean. Maybe have a female there to make you more at ease. It’s money, try not to turn it down.

I’m 34 and would trade a nice hot girl for a nice 300mm 2.8 :)

How about posting some samples so we can see if we can help?? You never know somebody might come up with something useful.

hmm.... 5 rooms and a basement, here's my suggestions, they'd make some killer photo shoot sets:

Room
1) Clowns and circus theme
2) Dinosaurs
3) Cowboys and the Wild West Shootout
4) Disco
5) Baseball
Basement) Finding Nemo (underwater thing) with pond.

I am partial to Sony.

VX-2000 if you want to spend bucks and get good sized glass and look like a pro.

They have a smaller 3 CCD unit that is much less expensive as well.

I have had great luck with Sony video equipment.
