Need help with wireless router.

Okay here is the deal. I have a Linksys Router (BEFW11S4) ver. 4 connected to a cable modem. I am using a Linksys WUSB54G ver 4 adapter. I set it up, unsecured, yes I know, and it worked for about 1 month no problem, one day it just stops. So I reset everything, no workie. Update all the firmware, no workie. Let microsoft WZC try to connect, no workie, let Linksys monitor try, no workie. I can connect to other wireless networks of my neighbors, Comcast says good signal to modem. Obviously it is something in the router. I have replaced the cat 5 from cable modem to router and modem sees the router. Tried to ping the router and it is password protected. I have uninstalled and reinstalled all software as well.
Need help now.
It may be just the router is bad, who knows. But this is a learning exp for me.

I have a linksys router as well. They suck. I have constant problems with mine. Seems as tho linksys has issues with over heating on more than half of their products.
I generally unplug mine and let it sit for a while then re connect every thing.
best advice is to get a new router made by a dif comany.

Maybe not, I have never had a problem with any of my routers in 4 years using Linksys.

how long have you used your linksys router?
You have comcast I am assuming here....Well I do know one thing. Depending on how old your router is you may need to re do it all over again. I do know that mine came with a disc and stuff. Any ways comcast changing ip addy's frequently. Maybe the router cannot detect the changes! I know that when I reconnected my router it would not pick up my ip addy it still kept saying the one that I had previously had from before I switched to comcast.

Good tip Angel. I have reinstalled everything before though and it did the same thing. Maybe I need to set up a static IP?
It says I am connected to the access point but no internet.

did u try repairing the connection?

Way beyond that Woots. Limited or no connectivity.

Interesting now that when I run a Linksys utility it says my wired adapter is disabled. I have one, enabled, and it will pick up other wireless signals. Not bad for being disabled.

Also amusing is the fact that linksys has labled all my hardware wireless, but their utility says my wired adaptor is disabled.

Ok without going through the router, connected straight from comp to the modem can you access the internet?
Like woot said try to repair the connection. U know how to do that?
Any how, I am great at computer tech crap but bad with names. Is static ip where you enter in the ip and subnet mask automatically? If so than you will just have problems further down the line when your ip from comcast changes!
So try to not uninstall the whole router. How ever on your mother computer plug directly into the internet with the modem and coxial wire(lol, cable wire).I know that my router had a disc with it. When I put the disc in it says like 4 options. The first option is set up 1st computer. So i clicked that and it found my internet connection. Then it told me to set up the router, so I did that.(mind you i am wired you are not they may differ some). Well any how it picked comcast and the ip up that way. Give it a shot, if you had a disc with it.
Another thing is google it. Type in problems with "router name and model number". You may find that many people who have the same software have had issues and they may have posted in tech forums how they repaired it and then you can go from there.
Hope I have helped a little, I know it can be stressful, as I just went through it yesterday hooking up my secondary comp with my linksys router.

Yep when I connect to my neighbors, mine says limited or no connectivity.

Linksys monitor says connected to access point but not internet.

Thanks Angel, but I have tried all that so far a couple of times. And yes Woots every light is on. A router problem is signified by a flashing power light on the linksys router, mine is solid.

i had to go to the actual settings on the router and reset up my connection(im talkin bout the page where u put the routers ip addy in) and that fixes mine everytime it happens

To get to that page wireless, I have to ping the router and I cannot get to it. I am talking to some linksys tech now that i cannot understand.
Router default ip is 168.1.1 and it wants a password, default password is admin and it gets me no where. won't allow me access.

too lazy to read the whole thread; for testing are you connecting to via wireless or ethernet cable?

I'd bet a nickel one of your neighbors set a password on it because you left it unsecured, to teach you a lesson.

Press the RESET button and hold it for fifteen seconds to get it back to factory settings -- and then plug a network cable into it to configure it; you should not be able to configure it over the wireless once it's been reset to factory settings. You have to use a cable to get to the admin panel and enable the WiFi.

Its IP address will NOT be in the 168.-whatever range -- it's going to be 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1, one of those two. Booting the PC while it's cabled to the Linksys should cause it to get an address from the Linksys and let them talk to each other.

Go to http://192.168.1.1/ -- it should pop right up and ask for the admin login.

By the way, 169.-whatever is just Windows' way of saying "I have no fricking idea what my IP address is." If you're seeing that, you don't have a connection.

I finally figured it out. Mac adress clone is what I needed then a reset. You fuggin it guys can kiss my butt. If you were smart you would be able to make this much more simple. Remeber IT means nothing without power. Us oilfield guys give you that power hehe.
Thanks for the help though. I will hit everyone who tried to help me.
BTW Digger, I still want your SN, I dig for oil and natural gas, tried to get your SN first but DENIED!
