my screen just went to a blue screen talkin about a techinal problem has occurred that windows shut down to protect itself and that i should look into my bios for something...didnt remember what

but at the bottom of the screen it said dumping physical memory to disk.

what the fuck just happened

Happens to me all the time, just re-boot. Windoze crashes like that on a daily basis.

Seriously, it has happened to me many times, and re-booting it usually cures the problem. My guess is that this happens from surfing porn sites, seriously.

It's not uncommon, I really don't know the nuts and bolts of it, but I do know that they actually make a T-SHIRT with a screen shot of that error. It's that common and equally annoying.

running a lot of programs at once?

do you have the resources available to run them?

it's not due to porn becuase it's happened at work (no porn at work).

have you defraged lately?

I have no idea what I'm taking about.

Nah, this weekend was my birthday, so I got it off, I took next weekend off too, because I made the deal that if I worked over Thanksgiving shut down, I can have X-Mas shut down off.

I'll be there on the 26th of Dec. though, so holla if your home for X-Mas.

We call it the Blue Screen of Death. Windows is buggy to the extent that a bug in a program can crap on the whole of Windows rather than Windows being able to isolate the buggy program and shut it down.

If it's happening to you a lot then either you're running a program which is falling over or you likely have a hardware fault. Check that your fan is doing its job since that's usually where the fault lies. See whether you typically have a particular program active when you get the BSoD. Also bear in mind that Windoze slowly rots over time and should be reinstalled every year or so just to clear out the mould.

I'll keep that info in mind as well once I get that HP up and running again with the new hard drive. That was the machine that it happened to me the most on.

Dude, If you have access to a shop vac, turn off the computer and give it a suck job...aim the hose at the fan for about 2-3 minutes or so. When I took my HP apart I was AMAZED at how much dust was in there. I aimed the shop-vac right into the fan and must have sucked out a pound of dust.

Yeah, blow that fucker out good, get a couple of those cans of compressed air from OfficeMax.

The error could be anything but the operating system takes everything that was in RAM memory at the time and stores it as a file...a really big file. It's all but useless unless you work for Microsoft so you may as well turn that feature off.
To find the option in XP go to Control Panel and select SYSTEM-ADVANCED-STARTUP AND RECOVERY SETTINGS. Under write debugging info change it to small memory dump or none.
