Need Advice on School

Freak Nasty

New member
The situation:

Im a BJJ blue belt. Been training about 2.5 years. Well my current instructor is a 3-purple belt under Pedro Sauer (6d bb). He is leaving sometime in Jan. Me and 2 other blue belts have been helping teach. My contract is up in Jan.

The same distance from my house is another BJJ school taught by BJJ blackbelt Leo Dalla (4d bb). He is LLoyd Irvin's instructor.

At my current school I can train from 1-5 days a week. I train about 3-4 days. If i moved schools I would be able to train 2-3 days a week. Realisticly it would be 2 days. The black belts school is cheaper assuming I only train 2 days a week.

What should I do?

I dont see my current school getting any BB's anytime soon.

You say that NOW you train from 3-4 days a week , no ?

Well , my Reccomendation is that you go to Dalla's school for 2-3 days a week (MAKE it hte third day , make it a Priority if its Important to you) then you have at LEAST One day a week where you get together with the other 2 Blues that you train with and go over what you learned at Leo's ! Try to get into a Carpooling Situation with them , juggle what needs to be juggled in your Schedule , etc . make it easier for THEM to go , so that you have other Eyes and Ears to help you to Improve .

I cant go to both schools. It has to be one or the other. Its not a scheduling problem its a $$$ problem. I dont understand the carpooling / make it easier for THEM to go statement. Please explain better.

Im not saying go to both .

Im saying that if youre in a School where in January the best thing you had going (wich , no offense , wasnt that high a rank ANYWAY) You should be going where you get the best Instruction . Youll probably be around a LOR of Blues/Browns , and that should Trump the oneday a week yorue missing out on , wich you an make up for if you convinve your two Blues to go with you , and work out on a day you cant make class .

AND that you should be taking the OTHER two Blue Belts WITH you , and on the other days working on what you learned with them outside of class .

ADDITIONALLY - youll be meeting other Blue Belts , and Purples , some of whom may be in your area , and able to work out with you on days you cant make Classes !

Go to school that will allow you to roll more. The more mat time the better. Also, keep a log of total hours trained and moves learned in each class if you care to. Really helps when you have to switch schools.

Ok the time has come. My membership at my current school will be up on the 20th. A little bit of things have changed since I last wrote this. The head instructor is leaving in 6 months guarenteed. 2 other good blue belts are leaving. That leaves only me and one other good guy.

So I turn to the good people of this forum to help me out with this decision. Do I stay at my school or go to the other place?

I feel bad for leaving, but I have to look out where I will get the best training for my $$$$

I still say go over to Leos school . YOur school has nothign to Offer you now , except a contract that they cant even truly Honour 6 mos from now . You have to Remember that youre the Consumer here , youre Writing the cheques , and that makes you the Customer AND the Boss . You should be getting the most for your Buck , and for your Travel Time . Changing schools is an Investment in your Future , and Leo has tunred out a lot of good Grapplers in the past . Fighters are going to understand that you have to make hte bwest descision for your training .

Im 99.99% certain that I will be going to Leo's, but I just feel bad for leaving. I actually talked to the purple belt instructor that is leaving in 6 months and he said he totally understood.
