Hi,

I am a new personal trainer, and am applying for job at a very well known gym in New Zealand.

I order to apply for this job I need take the personal training manager through a 45 minute workout. He is impressed by big compund exercises and dynamic strecthing.

Are there any really great exercises you know of that will really impress? So far on my list is (not in order):

Squats with shoulder press
Stiff legged deadlift
Lunges with medicine ball twists
Box jumps
squat jumps
Step up/ lunge combo
bent over row
Clean and press
tricep dips
chinups
Pushups

Any help is appreciated!

Also, what are some really effective core exercises?

Thanks a lot :)

Lotta movements in there that could hurt a body. I hope that you don't end up hurting the guy you are trying to impress.

I am in fairly decent shape and there is NO WAY I would perform a great percentage of the movements you are wanting to use.

Why not try using less compromising movements and just take it up a notch by using supersets/giant sets/drop sets. Throw some negative reps in at the end. How bout pre-exhausting?

I don't know what type of philosophies are employed by the gym you are applying for or what their client base is comprised of. Have you ever worked with baby-boomers who have NEVER hit the gym? The postpartum soccer moms? Seniors? Diabetics? Asthmatics?

Just sayin... the job is about more than just pounding the crap out of some poor shmuck. It's about helping EVERYONE achieve their specific fitness goals SAFELY.

... just my .02 :)

Oh yea... and one of MY FAV core strengthing movments is the hanging leg raise. I am ONLY ONE OF TWO in any gym where I have trained (been in the gym for 20+ years) that regularly employs this movement. It's not for the faint of heart.
