Hey people.

First off I would like to say what a great forum you have and I am looking forward to being a part of it.

Ok basically I am tired of searching the internet on “weight gain tips and info” because:

1. I am clueless.

2. There’s too many sites out there trying to promote there “amazing products” and I am guessing that half of the things they “claim” are bullshit.

3. I have no idea on prices, quality, quantity or anything in the supplements market. I have seen a lot of things on eBay but I think if I went and brought something I would get ripped off.

So, here I am looking to get some honest and professional opinions from some experts that have had previous experience.

I am 18 years of age, 140 pounds (10 Stone) and about 5`8.

I am looking to gain about 2 stone but I have a really poor appetite and a crazy metabolism.

I have a gym membership and will get all the weight training advice from them when I go to workout but I would really appreciate if you guys could recommend some products with pure weight gain goodness!

I have about £120 ($214) to spend on supplements a month.

This sounds really corny but I am interested in body building and all the aspects of it but I find it hard to study considering college and 2 jobs.

If you could reply with some quick tips or some recommended products I would be amazingly grateful. Please no links to websites with info as I have been surfing for around 5 hours tonight (that’s right I sacrificed my Saturday night :-( )

Keep in mind that I will follow the advice people will give me, and I will buy the products people recommend.

Thanks, James

Ok back to the post -

Success in bodybuilding boils down to three things;

Nutrition
You must consume at least 1.5 grams of protein per pound of lean bodyweight every day. So, if you currently weigh 140 pounds, then you need to eat approx 210grams of protein each and every day.
Your daily carbohydrate intake should be 1.5-2 grams per pound of bodyweight , which means you should need to eat around 210-280grams of carbs every day.

Rest
Always give your body enough time to rest and recuperate from your hard workouts, and never underestimate the power of recovery. Many bodybuilders who train four days a week prefere to rest completely on Wednesday and over the weekend. Others train every other dayso that they do not have to train two days in a row. Both systems are good.

Training
You should never, ever, train for more than one hour and fifteen minutes, because if you do you will simply be defeating the whole purpose of building huge muscular mass.
Your workouts should consist primarily of heavy basic compound movements which stimulate the larger muscles of the body. As far as sets and reps are concerned, I would recommend one or two sets of 8-12 reps as a warm-up followed by one really hard set of 8-10reps, almost to failure.
You should also try to increase your training poundages over a certain period of time because regular strength increases muscular growth. Also, when you're training try your best to concentrate on the lowering part of each movement. This is known as the negative part of the exercise, while the actual lifting of the weight is called the positive. Negative reps are just as important (or even more important) than positive reps, so lower the weight slowly at all times, and never allow gravity to take over.
Contraction is another very important aspect of successful bodybuilding. When you press or curl the weight to the contracted position, try to squeeze the working muscle for a second or two.
