Need a bit of help on the 501 training method

Hi -
I would post this in the training board, but i need a pretty quick response and i'm sure some people know what this is..

this is what some guy tried to explain it it as...

Its the 501 tempo, i dont understand it at all so could someone please try and explain it to me.. a little less.. scientific?
 
lift the weight, and that should take one second.

then no rest and immediately lower the weight, and that should take 5 seconds.

were it the 852 method, then you would lift for two seconds, rest 5 in that top position, and then lower it for 8 seconds.
 
so i lift the weight in one second, then I SLOWLY bring it down so that my arm is straight in five seconds?
