My puppy

Actually this is my area of expertise (sp?) as I am a dog breeder. :D If it is a puppy under about 3-4 months old, a warm towel or better yet a warm water bottle and a ticking clock (with the alarm set OFF obviously) works almost everytime. The warmth and the rythem of the ticking clock simulate the mothers warth and heart beat and they go fast asleep. Whomever said above not to baby them is correct. If this doesn't work, you will just have to ignore the puppy until it goes to sleep or they will think whining will get you to return to them and baby them and the problem will only get worse. :D Good luck!

Yeah that what I though too if I baby it too much, the problem will get worse but the thing is my damn neighbor will get mad. I try to ignore it for like 10 minutes and is still just continue barking even louder. I figure it just doesn't want to sleep alone because when I put it on the bed together with me it just went to sleep right away and it only barks whenever it want to play with me.

Raina...my dog named is Gizmo also....not sure If I want to name it Gizmo..thinking that I will name it Furrball ,lol because it pretty much look like a furrball. Not sure yet what would the permanent name would be....

The thing is No one knows I have a dog except of course for my roommates. ;)

shit zu , 2 months old..i just have it for 5 days .

Are you not allowed to have a dog in your place? One thing you can do but it does seem a bit "rough" to some people. As you know mothers carry puppies in their mouths sometimes and use the neck area on the dog to do so. When I got into breeding I had a german breeder tell me to firmly grab the skin on the back of the puppies neck, give it a gentle tug/shake and say NO! when the dog does anything that is not allowed. Not slam the dog around or really go to town shaking it, but act like the mother would. Now keep in mind this was for Rottie puppies, they are bit more "rugged" than a shitzu or as I like to call them "A Foot". lol You have to let the puppy know this is unacceptable behavior just like the mother would do. The alpha dogs usually show their dominance by controlling food, mating, and applying pressure to another dogs neck and standing over the puppy and new mothers do this as well to a certain extent. Nothing is going to work the first time you do it, it will take a week or two to get this behaviour to really die down, but it can be corrected if you are diligent with your correction. This is only a guideline and I hate to say it, but it is a puppy and they do make noise, it's just part of it as you know. Maybe it would be a good idea to talk with your nieghbor and tell them you are going to have a puppy in your place for a few weeks while your folks are on a cruise or something like that until the noise dies down and it's no longer an issue? Just a random thought there. Regardless good luck!

Put a shirt, or something with your scent in his bed, along with a couple toys and see if he stays in it. :)
