My planned adventure for 2009...

Okay so I had a few undergrads come up to me and tell me all about this festival called burning man held in August once a year to celebrate interconnection, the expansion of consciousness, and community over commodity. I always thought it was a lil wild for me.

I'm 31 now, and not 24 anymore. I read a book called 'Burning Man' and the author, Daniel Pinchbeck wrote about it extensively, while this was like 5 years ago, I"m sure the celebration has morphed into an entirely different animal. Anyway, he met a fortune teller, who also happened to be 19 year old dancer. She told him precisely what he would write in the next up coming years.

He has written 3 books since, and I haven't read them but they were endorsed pretty heavily. How come I don't meet fortune teller/dancers. Actually fortune teller/nutritionist/ dancer would be ideal. I have a couple of friends I'm meeting up with there. Anybody down?
Here are some videos:

My ex-roomie has been going for years. She has a propane pumping and pyrotechnics operating license, so she's more there to build stuff and light it on fire than to do drugs and dance around in a feather boa. She loves it.

Last time I saw her we sat out in some dude's lawn in middle-of-nowhere-Nevada and drank whiskey and blew stuff up. It was quite fun. Maybe I'll go with her next year.

U should go.
Yeah, the drugs are all like the MDMA variety, no methamphetamine type hate in 6 hours I'm gonna eat my arm and smile type stuff.
They are all analogues though, like foxy methoxy, type psychotropic type things.
Thing is its more of a VW yuppie, SO Cal crowd I think. Alexander Shulgin wanna bes.
Bring the professor, I can psychoanalyze U both till U smack me silly.
We can build a ManoWar Mobile..... LOL

I'm relaying what I've been told, unanimously, by many, MANY pagans who have attended many, many festivals of all sorts and types across the country: Burning Man is hardcore pack-in/pack-out, including water:

This is from THEIR website:

RADICAL SELF RELIANCE

Your survival depends on your reading and following these lists:

What You Must Bring:
* Your ticket or Photo ID and confirmation number for "will call"
* 1.5 gallons of water per person per day (for drinking, showering, washing, and food preparation). Carry a bottle of water with you at all times.
* Enough food/beverages for your entire party
* First-aid kit
* Warm clothing for evenings - this is a desert at 4000 feet elevation!
* Bedding and shelter of some type - the winds can exceed 75 mph, and the mid-day temperature can exceed 100° F.
* A good camp tent is recommended along with warm sleeping bags. Evening temperatures can be in the 40's.
* Garbage bags
* Any required prescriptions, contact lens supplies (disposables work great), or whatever else you need to maintain your health and comfort in a remote area with no services
* Flashlights and spare batteries (headlamps are useful) to be sure you can see and be seen at night
* Sunscreen/sunblock lotion and sunglasses
* Fire extinguishers, to protect your camp and property and if you plan to burn your art
* Common sense, an open mind, and a positive attitude

what about rubbers? boots? prohilliiatrics? condoms? lovegloves?

Dude, go before you end up getting married and life becomes boring.
I know, I know.
I'm gonna have to settle down someday.
The undergrads there are not bums either, like they do allright in school.
I'm going with 2 friends, and even invited one from here.
This person I think is in fo sho.
U have to do something there though, participate in building something that expresses an idea that is not trash and well thought out that promotes some kind of well... idea of good will.
I know it sounds like Silicon Valley/Woodstock, but I thought, I have not done anything wild in like 6 years, so why not?

Here's the main Burning Man website, kids, it's comprehensive as hell.

The Burning Man Project :: Welcome Home

Yes, RVs are acceptable, but remember, no hook ups. There is no water, there is no sewer, there is no dump station, basically, you'll need a generator.

They do have RV service vehicles that will pump, they don't do appointments, you just have to waive one down and they charge for the service and it's cash only. They will fine you for discharging grey or black water on the desert. Anyway, there's an RV Survival Guide on the site.

If you're going to do Burning Man this is something you really need to plan in advance. There are NO vendors, the only thing you can buy there is water, ice and coffee. It really sounds seriously cool, the size of the community is immense but dayum, it's going to be a few years for us. NO WAY would I consider doing it with less than a Class A and rentals on those are pricey.

MM, thanx...
Like I am going to do extensive research.
I don't own or have access to an RV. All I have is a CRV.
Tickets for the whole week are only 260.
It does sound fun, however, I'm unsure of like what idea I would like to promote.
Like I don't wanna get stuck being some construction dude on someone' platform for
like Interspecies communication with Dolphins...
U get my point.
Kinda Egotistical that way. LOL

Wow. I guess I'm to commercialized to like something like that. I'd go to Vegas again or Tokyo.

Don't be so sure. The big motorhomes are appreciated because they can provide a windbreak for the tenters but there are porta-potties that are serviced the entire time but people don't invade your space (as far as I know).

There's also an entire section of people who specifically WANT to go and do the survivalist thing, a minimalist camping section. Everyone has their own level of adventurousness (? is that even a word?) and how little they are willing to live with.

I wouldn't do it in my teardrop, we don't have a generator so we'd be out of luck for a/c and we put E-Z Up awnings over it and I'd be shitting myself if a big wind storm came up.
