The Gretsch is more useful than I would have thought. The single coil pickups are pretty bright and twangy, but the tone switch can calm that down. I was afraid it'd only be good for rockabilly and old Beatles tunes, but the flat smooth fingerboard makes for nice string bending too. I usually play it through the "Marshall" 18-watt amp that it's leaning against in the picture, or the '63 Fender Deluxe-Amp seen behind it. The Telecaster is still my main go-to guitar though.

My friend John who played 2nd guitar in Evanescence until he got fired last month uses an all-Line6 rig and for the heavy stuff it does a good job for him.

nice man. never a fan of deans paticularly. i love my ibanezes and charvels!

I have always wanted to play. I go in shops and just look at the guitars, the sales person will come up to me and ask for help and I just say no because I don't know shit. I just love the guitar. Props to all ya all!(even if they are only artwork for some of you)

gotta say... these guitars pack about as much bang for the buck as you can cram into a stick of wood.

I have a loaded up z that plays better than half my vintage pieces. The hardware is top notch too. You have to have long hair or a goatee(sp?) to play one live though.

At first I couldn't imagine how a Gretsch would fit with your style and preferences. You'd probably like the fingerboard, since they are typically wide, flat, and smooth like a "shredder" guitar, but I dunno if the neck profile would suit you since they're a little thicker. Are you looking to expand into rockabilly or something?

Mine's a 6119 Tennessee Rose model, which is the guitar that used to be called a Chet Atkins Tennessean before Chet Atkins moved his endorsement to Gibson. So Gretsch were forced to change the name. But the estate of the late Chet Atkins has re-signed with Gretsch, so Gretsch dumped a bunch of the non-Chet ones onto the clearance racks last year for dirt cheap, and I grabbed one. I always liked the Tennessean because George Harrison and Dave Davies used them, and I like the brighter, focussed sound of the single coil pickups over the more gnarly dual-coil Filtertron pickups in the other Gretsch models. You might be happier with a Gretsch 6120 with its higher-output pickups, it's more of a Rev Horton Heat type instrument.

Oh, a Gibson J45 flattop acoustic followed me home today.

Nice guitars in here. I have one eletric fender(satriani one) and an accoustic fender dg7( I think) I havent played in over a year. I want to pick up again so bad, but unfortunately time is an issue.
