I'm not sure how I feel about the new gym they are building.

Get fit, watch a flick at new gym

Coming to a gym soon to be near you is a “cardio-cinema” for fans of fitness and movies.
The movie theater is a feature of the new Gold’s Gym Columbiana, now under construction off Lake Murray Boulevard. It will open next spring.
There will be no buttered popcorn or oversized drinks for the club’s members, though. The gym’s darkened theater will have cardio machines on its tiered floor instead of seats.
“They can go in there and zone out,” said John H. Burriss Sr., president of St. Andrews Fitness Corp., which owns the four Gold’s Gym locations in Columbia. “They can do cardio while watching a movie.”
Gold’s Gym Columbiana, to open in March or April, will replace the Gold’s Gym locations at St. Andrews and Harbison, Burriss said. Renovations and expansions will begin in August at two other Gold’s Gyms — one in Lexington (which will double in size) and one in Northeast Richland, he said.
Burriss said there is another Gold’s Gym planned in Richland County, but would not disclose the site. He said construction of that gym would begin this summer.
The new 45,000-square-foot gym will anchor Columbiana Point, a $10 million retail and office project being developed by The Burriss Corp.
The project at 800 Columbiana Drive also includes 20,000 square feet of retail and office space, as well as 10,000 square feet for a restaurant. Burriss also would not disclose the name of the restaurant.
Other Columbiana Point tenants are to include a tanning salon, a women’s weight loss center and a hair salon. Talks continue with a number of other prospective businesses, Burriss said.
The development will join what is fast becoming a bustling commercial corridor along Lake Murray Boulevard, Irmo Mayor John Gibbons said.
“With the emphasis on physical fitness and a healthy lifestyle, there’s a great need for another gym,” Gibbons said, adding the area also has a New Life Fitness World.
A heated pool with a retractable roof is to be built at Gold’s Gym Columbiana and added to the Lexington gym, Burriss said. Like Gold’s Gym Columbiana, the one in Lexington also will have a cardio-cinema.
“We’re going to larger gyms with much newer amenities and ideas,” he said.
