My girlfriend has got herpes

Hiatussin

New member
She´s 18 and I´m her first and only in full sex, but she has kissed other guys in the past.

She got genital and oral outbreaks at roughly the same time this week, We had unprotected sex last weekend, I fucked her fairly raw and she had little wounds down there and she thinks she transmitted it from her mouth to her vagina with her hands.

I have never had a genital outbreak but once had an oral one as a small child and never again. Both my parents are carriers who don´t get outbreaks.

She went to her doctor who examined her and told her to take valacyclovir (Valtrex) for a while and not have sex for a month.

I´m disgusted, suspicious and confused.

I also have a little point on my penis that is kind of sore, but it´s only a millimeter wide, there´s only one, and it doesn´t look like any picture of herpes I have seen.

Are herpes blood tests reliable? then again its useless since I pretty much know I carry the virus since I got it as a kid once.

You answered your own question..

Sucks though...

I dont care if people want to be an asshole. seeing how common the virus is in society they´re just being idiots.

I feel like shit now. today was supposed to be a productive workday. I can´t concentrate worth a fuck.

Why should I trust her?
I know the following-

She´s definately hypersexual http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hypersexuality
She lives fairly far away
She´s admitted to having sexual fantasies about a man she knows (one specific man, continuously for a long time)
She´s admitted to making out with others early in our relationship
She´s not very emotionally stable
She seems to think she is not in control of her own actions and thoughts

I´m getting fucking tired of this shit. She´s my first; weve been together for like 2.5 years now and weve had good times and great sex, I´m really attached, I´d never even think about getting a date with another girl.

I need to fucking dump her. I´m fucking devastated.

you guys are a good fucking wall to whine to. lots of different opinions and nobody I know personally.

Well considering that herpes is a sexually transmitted disease, and if the doctor has told her that yes, she does in fact have herpes, then she got it from somewhere. And if it wasn't you (you should def. be tested) then she got it from someone else. Plain and simple.

Is it possible to catch it and then for the outbreaks to occur a few years down the road? I have no idea. Maybe she got it from someone before you?

I have heard that the test are not that reliable but who knows...I have also heard that oral can be transmitted to gential,...so if she had a guy with a cold sore go down on her that could have casued this...REMEBER it lays dorminte (sp) she may have already had it and didn't know it...

all these things are possible

I will get tested, but It´s possible I´ve had it all my life. I recall an oral outbreak in my pre-teens

getting a test is pointless unless youre swabbing a lesion (your sore spot). if youve had it orally, you have the virus in part of your nervous system, but not neccessarily in the nerves servicing your genitals. for all you know, you gave it to her genitally via a sub clinical oral outbreak, so be not so quick to point the finger.

if you want to break up with her, then fine, but this is nowhere near enough proof unless you are simply so overwrought that it is affecting the viability of your relationship.

also, i want to be a hypersexual too :(

oral can be transferred to genitals.

its a wide stretch of anyone's imagination to think that she got it from her hand...

tough call, but sounds like its time for you to be more than suspicious of her actions.

untrue. during the weeping stages people tend to pick their sores. any genital contact and there you go

how strange, i made a genital herpes thread in jest a couple of days ago :D

now im going to make a thread about lotto ;)

well i guess i have been lucky then - i had (have) oral ones - altho none for the past 10 years - and its yet to rear its nasty head on my unit.

its a bad bad virus to have, and usually a deal-breaker

Sounds like it is possible that you just scraped each other up. That happens and when you are not all that experienced with sex yet it is easy to mistake getting really really sore with a herpes outbreak. It is also possible that the doctor just gave her valtrex to heal things up. If she had tested positive for herpes I would imagine that the doctor would have told her all sorts of information about sex. Both of you should get the blood test so you know for sure. Sounds like you just kept going after she had gone dry. Sheesh, don't do that again. Get some lube, fella.

no. prescription of valtrex would never ever ever be made without definitive diagnosis.

Bro all herpies is, Is a cold sore so notherwords if you had a cold sore while kissing her or going down on her this could have spread it.But this is only the case with type 1 I believe

I know a girl who was given valtrex while they waited on the tests to come back.. Ended up being friction burns.. she was given the sample packs, so a prescription maybe not, but the sure will give em the sample packs..

sucks bro that your going through this emotional turmoil.. hope that you are led to the correct decisions.

lol, she only slept with you and she has herpes?

what does that tell you?! hmmm?

Women will never be truthful on who they slept with or what they've done in the past. They won't even admit if they were strippers in college. Put on that goody two shoes act later on in life to attract husbands.

AMEN!!! But then again, neither will I

She got a hair piece?

Make sure you get tested just in case she's cheating on you. Cheating sucks but a big wound on your wand is worse.

sorry to hear this woodenshoe boy. that sucks and i really hope you don't have it.

i have heard that it can be transferred orally to genitals, but I don't know if she can actually transfer it to herself like that.

were your parents carriers before having you? Is there a possibility that your mother had a small outbreak while giving birth thus transmitting it to you?

just get checked out and keep an eye on it. I once had a doc tell me I had herpes but it turned out to be strep throat....fucking dumbass. I had kissed a girl 3-4 days prior so I told her I must've gotten it from her.

on a lighter note..

hey, maybe you two will be just peachy happy... all those people on the herpes commericals are always just giddy and enjoying life.

True

Three quick stories that are 100% true about very close friends

1. Friend marrys a former NFL cheerleader from a great family. She is educated and owns her own business. Claimed to only sleep with 3 bfs and was tested..etc. About 2 yrs into the marraige, and with a baby on the way....my friend finds pills that the name has been filed off. He asks her about it...she freaks and accuses him of not trusting her. Time goes on and he finds more of the same filed off pills. He askes a Pharmacist friend what they are....The where Herpies meds!!!!!!!!!@@!!@@

2. First gf real gf in HS. Girl claimed to be a virgin. 1 yr in friend burns when urinating. Dr. said he got it from whoever he was having sex with. He said only gf. Dr. said who else is gf having sex with. She denies it, and makes him feel terrible for even asking her, and he stays with her. Later he fiends out she was cheating and had caught it from a particular guy.

3. Same as number 2. But, Friend was older and got warts amost 2 yrs in. She denied cheating. But, later found out she was cheating

Sorry to hear that man, difficult situation to say the least.

Like GD said, if you have an oral outbreak when you were younger, you could easily have had more since then without realizing it and passed it to her genitals or mouth orally, can't really fault you for that.

I had a doc tell me I had herpes before and put me on a 5 day scrip of acycolivir (basically same thing as valtrex), turned out she was wrong, it was just a scrape (friction) from too much sex. I took the swab and blood test.

The good thing is, if oral herpes is transferred to the genitals, typically there is only one outbreak, and after that it stays dormat and if there are any more outbreaks they are mild.

The point on your penis, what does it look like? Herpes is usually a small cluster of little bumps within one larger sore.

I learned alot about it after being falsely diagnosed. Here's a message board I found useful:

Sorry to hear that man. It's a pest of a problem but it can be controlled much better now. Valtrex helps.

Yo......and I used to say I would never hit a female! In these cases, a beat down is in order!

I had a buddy in college who was actually living with his girlfriend before he found her herpes meds in the medicine cabinet.....and the dumbass even stayed with her even after that too!

Your parents never told you that you had it? That's pretty fucked up if so. What wuold have happened if you were the promiscuous type and gave it to multiple girls?

Are you going to tell her?

How come you parents never told you about this?

I had a scare once but I think it was just where I was masturbating so much it rubbed me raw. HAHA.

seriously though a lot of people have it and don't know it because it may still be dormant.

after your first outbreaks your body learns to fight the virus and outbreaks get less or stop completely.

Don't stress bro, it's only a skin disorder. It rarely causes complications and you won't die from it. It's basically like getting a zit.

Like I said I had a scare once so I read on the subject.

Except for the fact you'll be a dating/social pariah for the rest of your life. You're legally, and I would say morally, obligated to tell a partner before sex. Here is the dating life for a woman I know, gorgeous blonde and former rockette infected by her boyfriend. She dates a guy for several months and keeps putting off the whole sex issue. She's learned that telling someone in the first few weeks just ensures you'll never see them again. After a few months she starts falling for they guy and he's getting very impatient. Therefore, she tells him since she's going to lose him either way. Most end up leaving her within a few days but some stick around longer and a handful have gone on to have sex with a condom but end up realizing all the complications and leave. She's started going to dating sites for infected people because that looks like her only option for a long term relationship/marriage.

With roughly 25% of the poplation having it, it wont be that hard to find someone.

That's what it sounds like to me  I'd fully expect him to be more informed and less prejudicial considering he's enrolled in premed ...

Be that as it may -- HEY HIATT, read this:

http://www.niaid.nih.gov/factsheets/stdherp.htm

The fact of the matter is you know, for a fact, that you have had the stuff in your system most if not all of your life, and the odds are VERY strongly in favor that YOU gave it to her, rather than that she picked it up in some extracurricular activity and infected you again ... you've claimed that honestly was the keystone of your relationship ...

I wonder if it's possible to be a herpes carrier and never or rarely break out, yet transmit the virus periodically ... kind of like a modern day Typhoid Mary?

Also, the virus lays dormant in ......... wait for it........

Oral herpes, an infection caused by the herpes simplex virus, is estimated to be present in 50 to 80 percent of the American adult population. 20 percent, over 50 million people, are infected with genital herpes, also caused by the herpes simplex virus, and the majority of these cases may be unaware they even have it. Studies show that more than 500,000 Americans are diagnosed with genital herpes each year.

Thats one in five adults that have genital herpes in the US.

Crap, I am so glad that I dont have to worry about that

I wouldn't be too sure of that...

80% of the population have the herpes simplex virus (HSV1) antibodies in their blood.

For the record - type 1 is usually above the waist and type 2 is well, below the waist.

That said, I assume you meant type 2 and not type 1.

And man that is literal, too. When I got the chickenpox (age 27, and it was very, very bad), the pox stopped almost PERFECTLY at my waistline, thickest above the neck (you could not lay a single fingertip on my face or head and not touch at least two pox) but there wasn't a one below the waist.

Weird. Guess it infects only certain dermatomes.

Well, the two "worst" as in, will screw your life up, are Herpes and of course HIV. Ironically, both are much more easily passed male to female than vice versa.

I understand HIV ruining someone's life. That's pretty much a death sentence that many people are not willing to risk.

However, why "Oh I have a cold sore" vs "eeeeewww, he has herpes"? It appears lack of education is the reason. Herpes on the lip appears to have less stigma than herpes on a penis.

Herpes on the lip is much more common so people see it more and accept it.

Herpes on the genitals, well, that's just not an area people want sores growing on..., open wounds on genitals....errr...it seems alot worse to me. Plus people say they can be quite painful. I'd rather have some pain on my lips than my penis.

Unfortunately reputation can be a matter of perspective and most people adopt their perspectives from others rather than create their own. (But that's a whole different thread)

well really the issue is that there are two main herpes viruses. Herpes simplex 1 and 2.
They are virtually identical viruses except where they prefer to remain dormant, The primary difference between the two viral types is in where they typically establish latency in the body- their "site of preference." HSV-1 usually establishes latency in the trigeminal ganglion, a collection of nerve cells near the ear. From there, it tends to recur on the lower lip or face. HSV-2 usually sets up residence in the sacral ganglion at the base of the spine. From there, it recurs in the genital area .

Once its out of its zone say if HSV-1 was to infect the genital reason it loses its punch. Usually just the initial flareup then no problems.
THe HSV-1 just normally is thought of as the good herpes.

People get HSV-1 primarily as a kid and herpes outbreaks diminish over time so that when they are older most dont even consider it a problem. However HSV-2 is almost always contracted as an adult and so more flareups, more tender region, that it is sexually transmitted doesnt help societal view either.

The thing for Hiatussin is, if he is a carrier of HSV-1 or 2. Because if he gave her herpes one, then the genital stuff should not be a long term problem as it doesnt affect that region. If its HSV-2 then it will take up refuge in the lower back rather than the neck and outbreaks will be in that region down there.

Plus 100 million people have HSV-1 or whatever the CDC statistics are, less have HSV-2 but its still 22%.
The name herpes is a name of several viruses, but in laymen's terms it usually refers to the 'bad' herpes which is genital herpes.
Nearly the same virus as one but just lives in a different part of the nerve tract

well really the issue is that there are two main herpes viruses. Herpes simplex 1 and 2.

Something to keep in the mind for the future maybe ...

Not everyone can teach ... many who teach may have the drive but that doesn't mean they necessarily have a touch for it, you know what I mean?

A man I respected well put it perfectly one time, "teachers teach the way they themselves learned best," which has shown me that a lot of really successful people learned through dry rote or mnemonics, photographic memories or some other trick

Now, the thread changes (and EVERYONE thought the girl was a whore and liar - typical chick  ).

Are you going to tell her?

How come you parents never told you about this?
I already told her.

I just thought it could only transfer during an outbreak. I haven't had one in 18 years.

without reading this entire thread (sorry) if hiatussin had sex with this girl and they both have herpes, why break up now?

Knowing is half the battle.....Go Joe!

Freshman actually had a section on STD's in the orientation program. They thought it was important since they claimed 25% of college aged Americans have an STD and most don't even know.

You're missing my point.

Supposedly 25% of the population has herpes of the genital variety and 50-80% of the oral type, yet nearly 100% of the responses on this thread are from peeps that "had a close call" or whose friend has it.
