My First Time...Sled Dragging that is!

Nate and I took his new sled for a drag around the gym parking lot last Friday night. My very first time...I was so excited!

We started off with ankle drags to the designated pole--backwards on the way back. I'd have to say that keeping your abs tight and using your arms for balance is key. Backwards was pretty cool...I had to lean forward a bit to counter balance the weight. Took a little getting used to at first, but by the time I was 1/2 way to the pole, I felt pretty good about my form.

Next was rows with a split stance. These came pretty easy to me...then there was the way back...a whole 'notha story! Straight arm pull downs? Help me out here Nate...kind of like a tricep press but with straight arms...these were much harder! I worked for every pull!

We did some overhead drags, which I think is responsible for my very tight neck! The hardest part was keeping my shoulders from flailing all over the place. Once again, abs kept tight!

Lastly we did a crouched walk, keeping the hands by the knees and staying looooow. My ass is thanking me for that one!

All in all, it was a really fun time and I am really looking forward to doing more sled dragging. I was hoping that someone could take pics of the attachments you use for your sled. We're managing with what we have, but could use some tips on attachments for different drags...and any new ideas as well.

Thanks! :)

as Spatts would say...."Oh my!"

I love training with Nate...

most of the time. :D I think he's harder on me than his clients. Maybe he expects me to know what's in his head by osmosis! I don't mind because it keeps me working hard and I'm constantly learning new things. Plus I like a good beating now and then...;)

He's harder on you cause he expects more and wants better results than clients, plus it is diffusion. Osmosis is H2o ;)

That is great......when I first got my sled me and my girlfriend took it out and dragged it except I didn't have any weights so she sat on my sled and got dragged...lol

ouch! That would really hurt...he's got a metal pole sticking out of the middle of it. No thanks!

well mine is homemade and is about four times the size of the elitefts sled so there is room to sit down and hold onto the pole...lol....not sit on the pole....eww

Homemade...that's cool!

Nate has tossed around the idea of getting a wielder--they supposedly have some at Sears that come with a "How to Wield" video! The only problem I see right now is space...he doesn't have a full garage or a lot of room to store his "toys."

So how about some advice, tips, pics of those attachments? We could really use some good ideas. BTW, I believe in karma!

lol....here is what I have done:

For a sled quick change set up you need....

metal "o" ring...about 4-6 inch diameter(hardware store)

Static rope (rock climbing store; internet)

Tie the rope to the holes on the two sides of the sled and then tie them together through the ring. This will look like a traingle with the ring at the top.

attachments:

1. I like nylon webbing at about 1". You want it to be about 10-15 feet long and have about an 18" diameter loop at each end. This is for ankle dragging and oh ext, ect.

2. Use nylon webbing at about 1" and make a loop at one end (18" to fit around a standard weight belt) and at the other end attach to a carabiner. The carabiner will snap to the o ring and you will be able to walk or sprint with it.

This set pretty much covers everything you would want to do with the sled.
