My first Powerlifting Meet...

Quadsweeps Sister

New member
Well...just as Becoming had, I promised to post my first meet 'Experience' because I enjoyed reading about how it had gone for him.

I competed last Saturday in the Ironhouse Zanesville classic - just a push/pull, but a lot of great lifters in attendence (even some world record holders and elite PL's)

I don't feel I was worried about the lifts as much as the suit problems. As a new PL'er - I am faced with all the problems of getting used to a bench shirt, squat suit and all the new forms of lifting. Training for the 'lift' as opposed to training the muscle for shape and size has been an overwhelming change for me. My numbers aren't all that fabulous, but at least I didn't miss any of my attempts. The meet results are here: Ironhouse Zanesville Push Pull Results

My weights were called in for me by someone else and that was fine with me. I could have gone heavier and I have in the gym, but with everything so foreign - I just used it as educational. I still need to get a new bench shirt and purchase a squat suit that I can dead in. Had a new PR yesterday of 265lbs off the box on my low box squat. I have never squatted in a meet, but this is where I am at without wraps. I weighed in at 131 for the meet. I can't wait until my next meet on Sept. 11th. I'm ready to go now!!!

Picture attached (i hope...) Take care.

Excellent job. Good weights plus the experience will prove invaluable to you. Keep up the great work and keep us posted on you progress.

Cheers,
Scotsman

Awesome job - thanks for posting up...

Yup - I too am used to a lifetime of lifting totally raw - so the equipment is weird... I still have a habit of dropping into a raw technique on max lifts still (on the squat especially)

Once you (and I for that matter) get the equipment down the numbers will jump...

Congrats and awesome work!

Nice JOB QSS!!u live in ohio right? COuld inform me on any meets coming up? and is that your pic in your av. because u look familiar!!

Well Done!

Just to get in there and compete is a great feeling. I remember my first meet. Even before I started lifting at all, it didn't matter where I came in the comp. By getting stronger than I ever was before and lifting so heavy, I already had "won". Didn't bother me that I wasn't as good as the seasoned boys, just getting up there and putting all that hard work into action was a fantastic feeling.
