My Computer Time is Slow

It seems to be losing about 20 minutes a day. It there a battery in there that needs to be changed? I'm not afraid to take the computer apart, I've assembled a few, but I'm not sure about this.

anyone ?

Yes, there is a battery on the mainboard that can go out.

It can cause your PC's bios to lose time and revert to default CMOS settings.

They are easy to replace. Just open it, take it out (careful, the retaining clip can break easily) and take it to a computer store.

there is also free software that you can install that will connect every N minutes (you can change the rate at which it updates) to a time server.

that way the time is always right.

computer clocks are notoriously bad even if they don't have dead batteries.
