My brother got a DUI last night.

He's been out of control drinking since he was 14. He just picked it up so easily. He's gotten into trouble with it before, but always got off. So, he got pulled over last night, passed the field sobriety test with flying colors, and blew a .26. Not good for him. So he calls this morning telling me it's the cop's fault, that he passed the test and should be ok to drive, it will get reduced to disorderly conduct, etc. He thinks it will only cost him $1500 and higher insurance for a couple of years. He can drink a fifth and be ready to go out and really drink. He isn't going to tell anyone else in the family, he doesn't think he needs help, my stepdad has offered to pay his tuition if he wants to go back to school. He got accepted to Drexel and may blow it if he doesn't man up and pull his head out of his ass. It's frustrating to see this and not be able to do anything but be ready to support him if/ when he's ready to work on it. He'll be dead in a few years if he keeps going like this.

Yeah it will be waay more than $1500. If he wants to get it reduced he needs to hire a lawyer. Why did he even blow if he knew he was that drunk?

This is your younger brother? He'll probably have to screw up worse than this before he changes anything.

ouch

damn bro that sucks.. anything you can do for him? even simple advice (although I am sure you have given it already.)

that sucks man. I'm still waiting to get my court date in the mail for a rough night out drinking I had this past summer. 16k worth of damage to my car and a "leaving the scene of an accident" ticket. I dont know why they let me go without a DUI but they did. lucky is not even the word.

'cause they knew the brothers on rikers would tear your ass up

Yeah it's my younger brother. He blew because he didn't think he had that much. He never learns, never takes responsibility for what he does. It's always someone else's fault. I quit drinking because I saw where I was going to go if I didn't. It's just in my family. It killed my grandfathers, my dad is one of the smartest people I've ever come across and it's kept him from doing what I think he can. He's going to die from it. I've seen him drink a pint of gin with a splash of tonic and two ice cubes before I could finish my beer. He's 5'6" and 145 lbs.

My best friend and broly in higher acts of stupidity got a DUI just over 6 months ago. I can relate to what you're saying about your brother. My friends and I were saying for a couple years that we actually hope that he gets a DUI so he would get a swift kick in the ass and hopefully clean up.

Needless to say, it didn't have the effect we hoped. He drove on a daily basis regardless of not having a license, went out on weekends, STILL drove after drinking... justifying it with, "dude, man, I'm only a couple blocks away from my place, I'll be totally safe." Regardless of being his friend and stuff, I wasn't concerned with his saftey.

Some people don't learn... some can justify everything away... some can do a combination of both that never ceases to amaze you.

:cow:

It just sucks to see it happen. Especially with the family history and with knowing where I was at with it, and being able to look back. Beh. Hindsight being 20/20 and all.

sounds like he is gonna continue this behavior man if someone doesnt step in. i not sayin it must be you but its gotta be someone. i know i was in a bad spot did shit like this, then realized i was gonna kill someone and myself if i kept on.

I'm 2000 miles away. He doesn't listen. He's a smart kid but fucking dumb as a post in some ways. He's the kind of person that would put a cig in his trach tube after he got his jaw removed from cancer just to say "fuck you I quit when I want to".
