I love the job, and alot of the aspects about it...

But I am begining to realize its not worth the consequences in correlation to the money I make.

I have cont. to work even with the broken hand. And course there was a decent size fight last night. I am never one to let others go to battle without me, so broken hand and all I hit the crowd and thrust myself into the fight.

I ended up dragging and fighting the kid one handed. This kid would not stop fighting everytime I knocked him down or got him out the door he would charge the door again swinging wildly. He ripped my shirt off, spit at me...finally I dragged him far enough away from the bar and when he came back the cops arrested him.

My dad just drove up 3 hours to see me that day, and is paying for me to see the best hand specialist on the east coast...I cannot tell him I got hurt again.

Go into battle without you??? You guys are fighting drunks in a bar.

No way would I risk my health/hand to prove I'm some badass bouncer in a bar. Seems more like pure stupidity.

Get your hand healthy and learn to pick your fights.

From what I know of bouncing...and what I know from your internet persona....just doesn't seem like the right situation for you.

You mean the tail at the bar, don't you?

HI- I hope your hand heals well... and fast. I think its a smart move for you to get out of that profession. This injury probably saved you from a far more serious injury you would have received had you remained a door-man.

actually I am a really good bouncer, fair, not a cowboy...but ill always back my fellow staff.

never leave a man hanging

i would tend to agree with hannibal, from what little i know of you

im sure you're good at your job when you need to be but it doesnt seem like your ultimate vocation

Based upon your previous experiences..you probably need to be more worried about your fellow bouncers who do more damage to you ... then the patrons.

btw your a dipshit and skinny, why are you even on this forum?

If you truly injured yourself at work, you should be compensated for all medical costs through Workers Compensation. You shouldn't have to spend a dime. Additionally, if your hand was hurt as badly as it seems it was, your doctor should have disabled you from work. In that case you will be compensated for 2/3 of your pre-injury gross (which is non-taxable).

There is absolutely no way you should be back at work risking further injury. And furthermore your employer is irresponsible...no stupid....for even allowing you to work.

GET OUT

GROW UP!

youv never bounced Puc, it is the wild west in many ways...last night we had 480 people in a club that is suppose to hold 250...and 5 bouncers to control a bunch of very drunk kids, you do what you have to do so a fellow co worker is not mobbed taking a bottle to the face.

Look down at your hand.... Who's the dipshit now?

There is a lot more to Elite than getting big from AS.

Get out while you can Kev.

You're at an age in which your in the prime of your life......you don't need to spend your time dragging idiots out of clubs.

I've seen too many guys that wanted to get out but never did........get out now otherwise it can become addictive.

you were a nice person then, too. i remember hi... you have changed. i can tell that from your posts here. you let the juice and the lifting control you. it made you narcissistic and angry.

maybe the yahoos over on the ana board find merit in obsession, but personally, i think it is unhealthy.

I actually like you puc, and its not me who has changed its the board..I have many good friends here that I have known for over a year now.

Ease up man....don't take yourself so seriously. If words on a screen get you all worked up...how do you handle someone in your face at a club? Precisely why I said that bouncing didn't seem like the right situation for you.

i know i have, too.

life stomped me into the ground, hi. for about 2 years i had everything that could go wrong go wrong. i was robbed twice, had my heart stomped on twice, got arrested twice, stood trial, hospital stays, bills, lost all of my friends.

I am still kicking, though. I like to think that I have proved i am a survivor. I like to think that these experiences hardened me. I like to think that I was in training for some still unknown reason.

Maybe these are delusions i have constructed to help me survive. If that is the case, then I will survive that realization, too. Never give up...

Dude - you're a bouncer. LOL!

If you Bounce, you will get hurt...Bottom line my man. I have enough scars and joint pain to last me the rest of my life....

I still do it 4 nites a week. Some of it is for the money, and yes...some of it for women.

Why do I get back up, come back after getting stitches, fight with sore knees and elbows.....

I really wish I knew....I honestly do, and I am not much longer in the game either my man

I wish you the best of luck

Ranger

A friend of mine owns a very large and very busy bar. He has no bouncers. Doesn't need them. I wonder why?

A lof of bouncers create work for themselves.

I never got seriously injured in 4 years of bouncing in Chicago Nightclubs... I had friends that did... I took a dive off of a stage with a patron (about 10 feet down), I landed on top of him, so no harm done to me... lol...

It was some of the best fun I've ever had in my life... the worse I think I got was a pulled hammy or groin slipping on wet floors while I'm throwing out someone... but it healed pretty quick..

hating? LOL! More like laughing at your view of your $9/hr gig!! Nothing funny about a broken hand though - I do feel bad for you there.

I don't even know you, but I think we're actually pretty close in age. Aren't you like 25?

Ya'll need to give H.I. a break here. Before you know it his reputation will spread across the country and bars from all over will be looking to hire him. Then the movie will come. All about the life and times of H.I.. It will cover his days from an internationally known campus model, all the way up to his days as a bouncer. I can see someone like a young Patrick Swayze playing his part. The movie will be called "ROAD HOUSE" or something similar. H.I. would play the part, but he will probably still be in college and too busy with his studies.;)

Man, I feel like shit now... I worked in nightclubs through Law School and for a year after I graduated for extra cash... By the time I was done, I was getting paid 22 an hour and made about 300-700 in tips during a weekend (When I worked front door at another club, I did mak 10 an hour, but pulled in 1K in tips a weekend)...

There are clubs that pay 9 an hour... way too low. I did however, get contract work from an attorney by working at a club, and 3-4 new clients for my old law firm by working there... hehe... all kinds of criminals come into nightclubs!! :)

WITH A BROKEN HAND LIKE THAT, YOU NEED TO USE YOUR HEAD A LITTLE MORE AND NOT GET HURT AGAIN. GETTING HURT AGAIN WILL SUCK BIG DICK. YOU WONT BE ABLE TO LIFT AT ALL. LET THE OTHER BOUNCERS TAKE CARE OF THE SITUATION. GIVE ANY HELP YOU CAN BUT STAY OUT OF THE FIGHT. BEING IN A FIGHT WHILE HURT ONLY COMPOUNDS THE CHANCES OF YOU GETTING HURT MORE.

TO WHOMEVER EVERY SAID HE WOULD GET WORKERS COMP., I HIGHLY DOUBT THAT. HE IS A BOUNCER AT A CLUB. THERE IS NO WORKERS COMPENSATION!!!

KAYNE

Oh yeah, before you say "Why aren't you doing it anymore!" lol... well, taking tips at front doors is ... well... looked down upon by owners and management at many establishments... and the turnover at various nightclubs is pretty high... at least in Chicago... as soon as a gig gets good... the club starts fucking sucking... and you'd have to get a job at a new one and milk it... since I wasn't going to be a "lifer" I didn't have to worry about following the rules.

To C and HI,

Do you guys work directly for the bar/club owner or are you employed by a security company who has a contract with the bar/club? How does it work in the States.

Here in Oz, you are employed by a security company who has a contract with a particular bar/club, therefore bouncers are entitled to workers comp and all other rights that any other employee would be entitled to.

It's very rare that a bar/club employs the bouncer(s) direct here.

Directly hiring us. The club is liable for any shit we do there... many lawsuits happen because a bouncer whoops the crap out of someone ... that's why guys don't say shit inside, then when they get outside, they want the bouncer to come after them... Bouncers are given a HELL of alot more leeway in the club... but outside the club they are given about Zero leeway.

you need to seriously talk to your boss HI: I had the same problem when I was a bouncer, they let too many drunk asshole enter and we were only 3/4 bouncers for 500 persons...it's just a $$$ question, but once a guy was seriously hurt cuz there was huge fight and we were all doing our job while a guy was hit in the face and lost an eye...they had to close for a while and when they opened again the same shit happened: too many person/not enough bouncers and we were sometimes in bad situation ; so one day I broke my hand in a boxing fight and I decided to stop here cause I knew I was unable to fight properly if i had to (talking is sometimes not enough in this job enen if I'm not a cowboy lol) and the boss didn't want to employ 1 more person...$$$
it seems like you have a good bodybuilding potential HI , don't destroy it cause you're not working in the best conditions... I liked this job since it helped to make few bucks, meet nice girls, nice people and good ambience but fuck, I didn't want to let my health there... just my .02.

HI--

think about it, it really is not worth it bouncing. You've already gotten injured. I dont know how it works in the States but in Toronto you fuck up, or get injured the club does not take responsibility. THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS WORKERS COMP FOR A BUNCH OF GORILLAS I PAY TO THROW PEOPLE OUTTA MY CLUB....is what one owner said. I got right the fuck outta this "proffession fast.

Although had i been making 1000 a weekend in tips like Citrus i might have reconsidered;)

Matt, there really is no need to be condescending.

Wish him well, and leave it at that.

He broke his hand and people still attack......

No wonder people hate the chat board these days.

You like women? Now I'm confused....

This is the first time I've actually been glad that I'm working in corporate America. I wouldn't want to be mid 20's and working in trashy bars until 5 am, with no employee benefits and no chance of advancing in life.

I nearly broke my hand this morning on a printer that wasn't staying in line.
I saw that it was giving some people shit and I never let my brothers go at it alone.
So I stepped in and smashed it with my flying fists of fury.

Now my hand is sore, but I don't think that we will be getting many more "PC LOAD LETTER" messages from that thing for awhile.

If we do, then I'm prepared to battle again.

There is something to be said for the financial and health benefits that go along with wearing a monkey suit (aka suit & tie) to work everyday.

As far as employment relating to advancing in life, I think that all has to do with each individual and their perception of what they want their life to be, how they want to live and what they want to do with themselves.

PC LOAD LETTER?!? What the FUCK does that mean?!?

Hahahahahahahahahahahha.....Corn, and Wodin....Paybacks are a bitch ya fuckers....Heh heh heh.

Bouncing isn't all about fights and drunks...I have met some really cool people, got invited to football games, parties, made alot of good friends....I know all the cops in the area and when they come in, it's usually free, hence no tickets since the 80's...<wink>

To me, it goes in cycles...Nothing at all for a few months, and then BANG!!! Seems every fucknut in the area wants to start shit, and it happens almost every nite for a few weeks then things settle done again....

Right now I make 100$ a nite, plus a few tips here and there...<wink>, all under the table....it's nice to have the extra *cycle* cash from time to time....

Take care,

Ranger

Even though this is an old thread, I'd like to add that there is nothing "Wild West" about this. Knowing that your fellow bouncer has got your back is very, very important.

And anybody who's been in the middle of a good-sized bar throwdown knows damn well that "battle" is not too bad of an analogy.

how much more of your life do you want to waste doing this stuff?
