I was at work and I hopped down from a platform maybe a foot and a half off the ground. My ankle twisted and made a crunching noise I've never heard, two separate cracks/pops. I couldn't put any weight on it for a few minutes, but I'm able to walk on it now. I should prob go to the emergency room in case I broke it but I'm gonna do the whole RICE bit and see where things stand in a couple days. Regardless, I'm probably done diving the rest of the season. God dammit this sucks.

Lol I'm actually rather consistently clumsy when I'm not actually focusing on my body movement. I probably get a mild sprain at least once a year...always the one ankle I messed up really badly in high school. Makes me wonder if there are unresolved stability issues. That said this is the worst I've done to myself since that injury.

Awww sowwy Nef. :( Hope it's not broken.

Don't wait too long to go to the doctor if it doesn't start to feel better, though.

Fucked mine up so bad the pictures are gross and scary.
That was about a year and half ago I did that.

It depends on your insurance whether I'd wait or not, but I could've sworn my wrist was broken last weekend but I gave it a few days and it feels about 90% now. I have to wait til Oct to get on my wife's insurance lol

I did the EXACT same thing one time on vacation, missed the step leaving the trailer, went down about a foot and a half, my ankle collapsed (they fold occasionally, they've done it before but not this bad). What killed me was it was right in the middle of vacation! Ankle blew up like a balloon, turned various shades of black and purple, I spent the rest of vacation drunk, popping Advil, with my leg elevated under ice packs.

It was about six weeks before I could take a decent (more than a few block) walk.

Plus side, you'd know if you've broken it, you couldn't walk on it at all.

I kinda figured that, re: being able to walk on it. I'm wishing for crutches but I can put weight on the ankle without extra pain, its the flexing that's excruciating.

ACE bandage is your friend :qt: Google how to wrap it right if you're not sure (trainer friend taught me that, there's a right way, which will help, and a wrong way, which can cause more harm). Pain is the body's way of saying "STOP THAT!" Ideally, rest it, but wrap it until you're able to keep it elevated and iced.

And speaking as someone who was walking around with two rotator cuff tears for nearly six months before seeing a DR., x-ray won't show shit except you didn't break it :whatever:

You don't have to go to the hospital. You can get an xray at a doctor's office. I fell last December and had to have one done...I'm terribly clumsy. You should be able to get in today or on Monday if you think you need to have it done. Sorry to hear that Nef

Get your ass to an ER!!
I don't blame her, I wouldn't go either, not under those circumstances. Only time I go to the ER is when I truly believe my life is in jeopardy, both times I was right, neither time the ER staff believed me at first (very frustrating situation, you don't get cred until you get close to death ...)

Amazingly, some people actually do have common sense about what a health emergency for themselves is, seriously. Not everyone, granted, but a small percentage of us. Unfortunately, the ones who were born with basically zero common sense make things generally miserable for everyone else, ER staff included :whatever:

Definately not broken. You would be screaming and in way more pain. Plus, you would def. not have been able to walk on it. Probably sprained. Hope you get better soon Nef.

I almost passed out from the pain, actually, but I agree about the walking. No "probably" about the sprain, though, I have a tennis ball growing out of my ankle right now lol. I'll post a pic in a minute.

THIS ^^^

Walk in clinics and Orthopedic clinics have xray machines... hubby went to a walk in when he fell and broke his elbow.

She needs an x-ray possible MRI, Anti-inflammatories, narcotic :) and a brace/crutches/cast.

I bought a brace and air cast from a pharmacy about an hour ago, but crutches sure would be nice...Walking(and by that I mean slowly limping) is getting harder as the day goes on. I guess I'll get my sister to bring me after she gets off work.

I've done worse to this ankle, I'm surprised/happy there isn't worse bruising:

did you have to paint your nails before taking the pic?

Lol they are always painted, but I almost made a joke about that. Most of the summer I had dive flags on them.

Woody, that was only taken a few hours after so more might show up, but I've also kept it religiously cold, compressed and elevated since it happened

Otherwise you could prolly hold off for a cheaper PCP appt.

With that swelling though, I'd be on the fence about imaging even if your Ottawa's are negatory.

Oh, it will be a positive rainbow of plums, greens and purples quite soon, no worries there :artist:

Looks utterly identical to what mine did! Damned good sprain you got there, girl! Get used to not walking anywhere for the next six weeks; first two are the worst. Odd are, you'll live :FRlol:

did you sprain that big toe too?

No, I broke it when I was 15 during a ballet performance and continued to dance on it in pointe shoes for two hours after breaking it.

Which is why I lol at alc telling me I'd be screaming in pain if I'd broken a bone lol.

must have been your good form.

No break, as suspected. But they diagnosed me with a grade 3 sprain, meaning I completely tore at least one ligament. I got a boot, some crutches, and painkillers I won't take lol. I'm happy for the crutches, I can't put any weight on that foot now. Odd that I had little pain after the intense initial pain subsided, and it progressed again almost to the point of that initial acute pain. The world got a little black again as the doc moved my foot around.

They will mri me next week to assess stability and such.

Broken toes are like breaking a nail to ballerinas as far as how common it is....please stop trying to neg me. This is going to dramatically affect my income, its really not a joke.

that sucks nef. hope it gets better soon but i know ankle sprains, especially bad ones, can be a bitch for several weeks. sorry this happened

I was gonna ask for you to give me those pain killers, but I guess I will pay for them.

oxys make me feel like I have a truck on my chest, and I just feel fuzzy. I'm assuming others get more from the experience because for me there's nothing pleasant about it.

Hon, there are WAYYYYY more good drugs out there. Just tell the docs what oxys do to you and tell them you need something for pain.

There are many lovely mind disorienting drugs out there for the taking!

don't take anything from MM, she may be setting your ass up for a sacrifice, somethin bout no more virgins

just watch out

Nef gives a shit about the environment. She could do better work with a heart beating in her chest :D

they gave you oxy's for a sprain?

wtf

lol I was surprised too. Vicodin makes me sick on my stomach, so I said not to give me that. Apparently it was all good to go for the stronger stuff. I doubt they would have approved that if I didn't have major ligament damage, but still. It's only a small amount though, like 12.

WTF do you mean "neg" you? I haven't sent you any karma neg or pos and would only give you pos (no HIV). If you're talking about something else, I have no idea what you mean.

I'm just beating a dead horse, right?

I'm going to PM you. This is not a conversation for the open board.

If you were moar sedentary and spent moar time eating ice cream on the sofa you may knot suffer as many injuries

just sayin'

Adding insult to injury, apparently the ankle brace the hospital gave me contains latex (which I'm allergic to). OR, I'm just allergic to lots of kinds of plastic. I've got a circle of maddeningly itchy swollen skin around my calf where there was direct contact over the top of my sock. Awesome!

would it be the wrong time to ask for a pic of you smiling, holding up a 'love you jack' sign?

would it be the wrong time to ask if she`s allergic to latex then how does she.... uhmmm... you know what... never mind it`s the wrong time...
