My aching joints

Someone recently recommended that I try calcium, MSM, and glucosamine for my joint problem, which is..

I work a pretty intense manual-labor job, which is heavy on the lifting and light on the breaks. Since I started, I've had some serious pain in both of my elbows, particularly when the muscles are tensed. I actually think I've lost an inch or two of my range-of-motion in my arms because of this.

With my arm held straight out, palm up, the portion of the joint that bulges towards the body from the ulna ( it might be from the humerus  ) is sore to the touch on both elbows.

This is troublesome for my entire upper body workout, particularly DB bench press and pull-ups. I get a searing pain on the former, and just can't do more than about 5 of the latter.

The rest of the time it's just an ache.

Back to my question:

I bought a bottle of MSM + glucosamine, 90 pills, 500mg of each per pill. The bottle recommends 3 pills a day.

So.. is this what I should be doing? Should I be taking more than 3 pills a day, or trying a different supplement? Are MSM + glucosamine okay taken in concert?

I have absolutely no knowledge of these things, and appreciate any help anyone can give me.

Glucosamine + chondroitin is a well known stack for joint pains

you can also add MSM

but it will takes a long time before you feel the improvements

hey bro;
all the above are great for joints i use them. but for instant relief i use emu oil creme, it is called blue stuff.

Thanks guys, I'll look for chondroitin next time I'm at CVS - they've having a half-off sale on Natrol brand products. $8 for a months supply.

Since I'm on a tight budget, that's great.

I also came across this post which answers some of my other questions.

Thanks again.

What about fats?

On top of those joint formulas, try to increase your intake of Omega-3, 6, & 9's. Fats may help with joint mobility.... it's kind of like oiling up the tin-man's joints.

Anthrax is right, it's gonna take some time to see substantial improvements.

I'd rather wait a few months than have chronic joint pain the rest of my life!

I'm looking for flax oil now, at local places. I don't know if grocery stores carry it, (doubt it) and I may bite the bullet and order from mass quantities or netrition or somewhere.

Thanks for all the help.

Good Choice

Flax oil is pretty cheap, try going to a whole foods market or natural market.... just don't get bent over by Netrition!

One to 3 Tbsp (15 to 45 ml) per day of the oil or up to three 1,000-mg capsules are typically found to be the most effective dosages.

Uhh....what??? Stay away from the capsules bro. You'd have to take like 30 of them a day to even get a minimal dosage.

As far as the oil Barlean's is a good brand. Get the freshest stuff you can find, Lignan or regular, and make sure the store you buy from stores it in the fridge.

Go to a couple stores, check out the prices and the freshness.

hemp oil and primerose oil are also good for aching joints
