ok heres the deal:

My iTunes isn't detecting my iPod. I have done the usual tricks - menu and start for 6 secs, reset settings, downloaded the latest software etc...but it still won't detect it.

once its connected, itunes pops up and it sounds like the wheel inside the iPod is spinning, but thats its it.

is my ipod fucked?

help!!!

Check your USB port maybe with another device. Or get a new I-Pod USB cord. It could be shorted. If it is the I-Pod, they are under warranty for 6 months after purchase. :Chef: :tuc:

plug your ipod into another computer with itunes..

if only it were that easy....Apple has thought of a very devious way of making sure that this isn't possible.

if anyone knows a way around this, please share...

it would erase the songs on you i pod

when u plugged it back into your computer the songs would re-upload :)

sure it would, but then you'd lose all of the songs from the last pc you hooked it up to.

see, them there are smart fuckers at apple.

i'm surprised no one knows a way around this problem...

Turn off auto-synching on the iTunes on the computer you're about to plug it into. It shouldn't then try to synch the iPod with the iTunes and your songs will be untouched.

As musclemuscle, says, if anything goes wrong, you should be able to restore from the original machine but I always have synching turned off and do it manually.

If you have the drive space to spare then you can keep a complete copy of your iTunes library away from iTunes. If you don't have the drive space then think about getting more space.

Take a browse over at ipoding. Tons of useful info over there but some parts might be a bit mac-orientated.

Another option is to download a program to copy all your music back off from the iPod to your hard-drive.
