I just listened to the black album again, i dont like it, 'Iowa' by SlipKnot is better, much better.

Ummm, right.... no offense now, but you have just proven that you dont know anything about metal with that comment. The black album is a classic, if you dont like it, right ho, but 'IWOA' is pure shite and cannot be compared to music of a different level and class completly.

The black album reflects some, if not the best work metallica have ever done. Like i said before, enter sandman, sad but true, the unforvien and nothing else matters are the songs they are know for and which elevated them to another level above most other bands.

Dont insult my or anyone else by saying that slipknot are better than metallica, because that is what you are implying with that comment. Everyone knows, even if they dont like metallica, what a classic that album is.

Man theres no fucking speed metal on that album!!

It's like hetfields arms fell off and he had to play with his dick. The guitars on that album are nothing but slow palm-muted down-picking which sounds cool for a bit then gets boring. The solos are slow and nothing to write home about. A true dissapointment to a hardcore old school tallica fan like myself.

His singing is different in a way i cant point out, it makes me want to kill him. Probably because it sounds like the shit on load and such.

You dont have to take my word for it, in every music store i've seen here the black album is selling for ten dollars or more cheaper than the the first 4 albums which are still at full price.

And load and re-load i havn't even spotted in a store yet.

Oh yes and then theres SlipKnot, still the number 1 album after 6 weeks :)

Actually, Master of Puppets is their most critically acclaimed album and I agree that it's their best. It has been called the best metal album of all time. The preceeding "Ride the Lightning" was seen as groundbreaking as well but just didn't have the crispness of MOP. "And justice for All" was great too but seems thin in places.

Metallica's Black, while a great metal album, was a little short of a masterpiece. Most people accuse Load and Reload of being their "sellout" albums, but Black was where Metallica signed with producer Bob Rock and the tracks became much shorter, with catchier riffs...more designed for radio airtime and mainstream exposure. It's a far cry from the almost 10 minute long and musically sophisticated track "...And Justice for All" from the same-titled album.

Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love Black and I'm the biggest Metallica fan out there. But, if anyone is going to accuse Metallica of selling out, they need to pinpoint Black as the beginning of the end, not Load and Reload.

BTW, I loved S&M. I think S&M's "One" is even better than the original. You have to listen to it from a different standpoint than the original stuff. IMO, it's inspirational.

yeah, s&m is great, and i would agree that some tracks do sound better.

Sic, you can't call james a bad singer....whatever album, he has a fucking great voice!

I did not say the black album was their 'best' album, i said that it was the album that took them to a higher level...call them sellouts if you want, they are still in another class from slipknot.

No, I love Metallica...they are by far my favorite band. I'm not saying they are or aren't sellouts (they maintain they aren't and that they still make the music they want to). Label them whatever you want, I love everything they've done. Granted, I enjoy their older stuff a little more but I still listen to Load, Reload, S&M, and Garage Inc all the time.

But you cannot deny that as of Black, their style became more mainstream and radio oriented...either by coincidence or on purpose. Regardless, I enjoy their music and I agree with you about Black being a classic metal album...it's truly great, sellout or not.

On a side note...I'm not going to get into the Slipknot vs Metallica argument with you guys because I don't know as much about their history as I do Metallica's but I do like Slipknot. New Abortion is one of my favorite tracks.

Yeah thats what i think, that black was the beginning of the end. You are right about the length of the tracks aswel, thats something i didn't notice, they are all shortened now, it's like they are not putting in the effort that they used to.

Master of Puppets is DEFINATELY the best album, i like every song on it except 'the thing that should not be'.

Welsh, i wasn't saying James is a bad singer, i said his voice changed significantly from Justice to Black to something i dont like, it just changed.

Does it matter how much you pay for an album that makes it good or not????
The backstreet boys album's are way more than guns n' roses appetitte for destruction, which IS the best album of all time IMO.
I t stayed in the US album chart for 3 years, and still sells over 6000 copies a week....it was released in 1987!!!
But, it still costs half the price of a linkin park, backstreet boys or britney album.

slipknot have been number one for 6 weeks, great for them..but they will never be a guns n' roses or metallica talent wise.
Their guitarists cant compete with slash or hammet, no matter how big they are!

And so what if the metallica stuff on the black album is slower paced, that does not mean shit.
Nothing else matters, imo is one of the best songs they have ever done, and a cracking solo in there from james(so much for his arms falling off!!) it is packed full of raw emotion....great track.

Metallica can't be called 'sell outs' with the music on this album, it is still heavy metal...what they have always done, different producer....so???
That is not selling out, selling out is making a certain type of music, then changing the style of it completly for a quike buck.
The metallica material has matured yes, but never changed, well not by much. If their sound was identical every album, would they have come this far.......no way!
Matter of fact, would any decent band????

I said that slipknot were sell outs because they had auditioned members brought into the band(auditioned by the record label)....ok their sound did'nt change much at all, but i still class this as way more of a sell out than what metallica did by changing producers, labels or whatever.
Slipknot, imo have always made nu metal so can't be called sellouts for making that type of music, but by having some of their line up auditioned to me is just like a boy band, but targeted at a different audience.
Boy bands target young girls
Nu metal is targeted at the gothic/nu metal trend

I am not having a go at goths with that comment, but slipknot are deffinatley targeted at that audience to make as much money as they can....that is why they were auditioned, to make them more marketable.
I dont blame any band for trying to make money, after all thats what they are paid to do....but dont call metallica sellouts when the band you like haved 'sold out' way more than metallica have.

I dont want to have a go at you or single you out here Geneti, but why 'the beginning of the end'....i think that is a bit harsh, i like load, garage inc, reload and S&M.
