Muscle Milk?

Gym just got into this Muscle Milk craze........ They used to offer a post workout Shake but now all they have is Muscle Milk... I had gotten into the habit of grabbing a RTD at the gym so stopped bringing my own then yesterday went for one and all they had was the MM.

Got one cause I really needed something. Then hell that damn thing made me feel guilty for drinking it... it tasted that damn good. (banana cream :p )

Now the only issue I have with the MM is the fat content. I know PWO fat should be a no no.. right? (maybe I am mistaken).

this is the breakdown of MM

musclemilkinfo7yy.jpg

my previous RTD was this

Nutrition Facts

Amount Per 1 serving
Calories 240
Calories from Fat 9

% Daily Value *

Total Fat 1g 2%
Sodium 120mg 5%
Potassium 180mg 5%
Total Carbohydrate 6g 2%
Dietary Fiber 1g 4%
Protein 51g 102%

Wouldn't the RTD be a better PWO shake?

Frisky, I think you answered your own question. That is a lot of fat to have post-workout. And here I was worried about the additional 2g of fat I was getting from mixing my PP w/ unsweetened soy milk. After reading thread after thread of Shadow explaining why we should not add fat to our PWO shakes, I mix my PP w/ water.

I don't know what the hell they are thinking only offering MM! Reluctantly I bought one but only because I knew it would be a few hours before I returned home and I needed something.

Next time - In case of an emergency - have a bottle with just PP and another bottle of water in your car. Add the water and just shake.

TG and I use muscle milk all the time. Great taste and the combination they have come up with seems to help you build muscle and stay lean. This has been the experiance of many that have used this.

Not sure how it works but it does.

I think the fat content is too high for PWO. Additionally, if you are supplementing carbs PWO, the carbs are too low. For what you get in the nutritional breakdown, I think the caloric intake is too high.

IMHO, this should be used solely as a MRP, not RTD PWO shake. I would use sparingly, only in case of emergency.

The idea of always having a shaker and a baggie of protein in the car is good. :)

I practically live on it. Seriously. I tend to drink the chocolate one to combat those damn chocolate cravings. I dilute it by mixing one scoop of muscle milk with a low-carb protein powder now that I am cutting. You still get some of the great taste and not all the fat content. But, I can tell you that I have drank it with the regular two scoops since January. As long as you factor it in your daily macronutrient breakdown it shouldn't be a problem.

Hey jackedmom, hows the diet going ???

I do the same thing. sometimes if i need the fat and calories i will use it straight but at other times i will mix a scoop with something else. Right now i have 3 tubs of the peanut chocolate ...

Distributor contract.

I've got bags of protein mix stashed all over my life.

Since I've had protein mix pulled from my diet, I now also have bags of tuna all over the place. Even a few single serving cans of green beans. And I did remember the plastic forks too!

No wonder my co-workers and everyone else I know thinks I"m strange... :verygood:

That's funny, I have three tubs of the milk chocolate on my kitchen counter now. I love it. Diet is going good, thanks for asking. Then again, I've only been cutting for a week now...we'll see how it's going after a few more weeks...hehehehe. I feel a tad bit tighter....and grouchier than normal...so I'm right on track. I posted new pics in my album. :verygood:

Good tip. That makes a lot of sense, it's a really good idea.

Yes, but is it a GOOD use of macronutrients? Real food is more metabolically active, plus is more satisfying, so it makes more sense to EAT your food instead of DRINK it.

Could not have said it better myself Daisy_Girl. Real food is always the best way to go. But in my case it's hard to get 300-400 grams of protien per day without a shake or two. And if your busy and on the go...better to have a shake than miss a meal.

But if I could have real food all day and no shakes.....That would be perfect ! Sometimes I get really sick of shakes.

But that being said it depends on Frisky's goals. Depending on what she is looking to do MM may not be the best for PWO.

For my goals.. You are correct TTTG... MM is not good. I've had to have it on that one occasion only. I'd love to have on in the AM (yummy) though.. LOL

I was just surprised that this is all my gym is offering. I haven't talked to the manager yet but I will ask her why she got rid of the RTD's she had before.
