Muscle Cars

I like the 66-72 Chevelles, 63-72 Novas, 67-73 Camaros

I like Big Block Chevy motors.. but small blocks pack a good punch too. I am also only into drag racing.. so I can be partial!!!

Muscle Cars are pretty much all I think about.

My Favorite car was my first one. It was a hand me down from my dad when I turned 18.

A 1973 Camaro LT with 350 and 4bbl Carb.

He told me he wished he had spent the extra money on 73 and got the SS.

Find a 72-74 Camaro preferably an SS..

72-74???

The body style of a 73 was the last year of that particular style. They started in 70 and ran that body style until 73. 1974 was the change over year.

I am with you though... I have a 71 Camaro.. it is an ex-outlaw drag car. I like that body style the best too!

Go for a newer car and put a little bit of work in it. Classic cars are really cool but they're money pits!

bigguns- Are you going to drive it or have it as an investment? Whatever you buy, make sure its as original as possible so it appreciates at a higher rate than a custom. 64-72 GM A-body is always good along with the F-body. Chrysler doesn't have the market value like GM, don't know why. Ford has some freaky shit but there are only so many Boss 429's out there. I am more comfortable with GM stuff I guess.

dballer-good to see another car guy out there, I'm the same way. What do you race? Do you have Pontiac connections?

Are you sure there was a 74 SS Camaro? I know there was no 75 Z28, but I thought they dropped the SS in 73. The 67-9 Camaro's are more likely to be in the 20k range and original to hold or appreciate in value for him.

Yeah.. I can find anything. What do you need?

I have a big block 71 Camaro. I just got rid of a 69 Nova. I am putting the Camaro cack together. I will most likley run it in 2 classes this coming season. I like bracket racing. So I will run it in the Pro class on Saturdays and the Sportsman-Foot Brake class on sundays.

he said it was a 73 model... there was no SS in 74 in the Camaro body-style.

here is a shot of my friend Billy's camaro... I took this picture this weekend at the track. This car runs 5.50's in the 1/8th on motor!!!!

I thought about going into racing till I found the cost was wild. Pussed out after I dusted $$ on a 900 horse engine. I'm a street guy. Have a 455 tri-power 69 Firebird vert(#64(10:1) heads and 224/234 cam), and a GTO getting redone. Have a set of ported Edelbrock heads and a roller cam for the 400 in the Goat. Goat has the frame POR-15 and poly suspension, 82 Vette rims, Year One interior and body panels/floor pans. Hope I get to work on it soon. Old(muscle) cars are awesome.

Sorry, I missed the I can find anything part of the response. I am looking for a single Edelbrock 87cc haed for the 455 in the Firebird. I got one off Ebay for $400 and I'd like to stumble on the other. Its a tall order though.

Yes sir!!!!

There is nothing in the world that sounds better than a big block chevelle NOTHING!

Had a 70' Chevelle 454, ohh man i loved that car, it was orange with 2 black stripes down the middle.Beautiful car!!

no.. I had nothing to do with the paint or the car. I just help him at the track. I have about 25 or so friends out there... we all help eachother out. I think his son Rick did the paint. I am not sure what it does in the 1/4... but I know it is really fast. I do not go to Commerce, they will not let you walk the staging lanes and will not let you get clost to where they pre-stage the cars or the burnout box.

I like the track in Dallas Ga.... it is the coolest track I have been to. Reynolds is nice too.

Had a 71 Mach I mustand with the 351 Cleveland engine.

Had a 70 Chevelle SS 454 - Matching numbers.

87 Buick Grand National GNX.

I would get a late 60's early 70's Boss Mustang, Fast back.

87 Buick Grand National GNX. This is a good car!!!! I would like to have one of these!!!!

1968 1/2 Dodge Super bee with 440 magnum and factory 6 pack.
Or 1970 Super bee with the 383 magnum. If you got this, I would be SOOOO envious!

dballer-I need it complete. The 87cc head has a small hole between the center two intake ports, steam passage I believe, be sure you see that so it isn't a 72cc head.

Tx-on the contrary. I am stuffing a turbo 2.3 in my Mustang.

For around 20,000 you can get into most restored muscle cars except for shelbys and early vettes. Take your pick. But if you get something common like a mustang, you will get a very nice restored car. Getting a GTO for that price won't net you the same quality. All of them hold their value so that wouldn't be an issue. If I had that coin I would go for a 1970 Barracuda. With that you get great looks, pony car size, and huge motors.

Due to the help of dballer

i am buying a

1968 Chevelle SS with the 396 big block, posi rear 4spd
body is perfect,

we are going to do a ground up restoration
and the motor...oh my .60 over, domed pistons, roller rockers
over size cam

holy shit i have serious wood

i have decided on Red with the Black SS stripes

Matador Red was the orig. color, it will look really sweet when it is painted. I cannot wait to see it done.

how was the racing action this past weekend? I got tied up entertaining the inlaws (outlaws). I will make it a point to be there this friday. Is it the last weekend for racing?

I do not think so... but I will be there all this coming weekend!!! You can bet on that!!!
I will keep you posted on when it ends.

Gene said next season there will be a $5000 purse every other month along with the usual $3000. So.. this coming season I will be running in 2 classes trying to get that money.

IF you like Camaros and you are spending your own money
then get a damn Camaro

2 Cars or just 2 different motors???

The same car in 2 diffrent classes. One class with the trans brake (Pro) and the other class with the regular foot brake (Sportsman)

gotcha

just the difference in brakes differs classes huh

as you can see i am not familiar with drag

i am an oval track man myself

No way, she told me when I bought the camero that she would make sure that I got laid every night.......(this is my wife we're talking about......lol) We sold the car for a downpayment on a new house. priorities can suck sometimes. She used to have a '74 nova, and would like us to build one like it someday. When the time comes I'll see about getting dballer to do my "grunt" work............while I get laid...........lol.......sorry bro.

Guess I was a year off on that model change..

My 73 LT Looked kinda like this except for being Blue with White strips, full wrap around front bumber and a white vinyl top.

I got the picture from...http://www.collectorcartraderonline.com/index.html

73.jpg

Yep... that is the 70-73 model I have that same car with a 6 inch cowl hood (Outlaw) and it is purple.... (no flames, I did not paint it)

ROFL.....well everyone is entitled to their opinions I guess. I think Mopars are the best looking musclcars bar NONE. Chevy's all seem to look the same plus I'm not wild about the black engine compartments. Mopars have body color in there and it looks awesome. The winged cars, Daytona and Superbird, talk about fucking wild looking. Six packs that actually RAN good (unlike GM's), the venerable HEMI which is used in every top fueler and funny car even today. Fucking wild ass colors, wild ass stripes, pistol grip shifters, Dana 60 rears. Unibody construction which runs circles around the full frame used in GM's musclecars. Name me ONE performance car made today that doesn't use a unibody? You can run 11's in a Dana 60 equipped Mopar with Super stock springs and a pinion snubber. Try that with a coil spring Chevelle. The body is so much more rigid. The motors are strong as hell, the 4 speeds are indestructable, and even the garden variety 8 3/4 rear has a bigger ring gear and heavier construction that the GM 12 bolt. Seeing a Camaro or Chevelle anymore is blase' I mean EVERYONE has one they made a trillion of them. I mean there are alot less Mopars around but does that make GM's better? Ok the new Mustang outsells the Firebird and Camaro COMBINED by 3 to 1. But what would you rather have?? I'll take an LS-1 with a 6 speed please!! I don't hate GM's in fact I love fast cars and a 454 Chevelle is a fast car, my first car was even a '69 Z-28. But After I got a '69 Charger and compared the cars I fell in love with the Charger. Just my opinion bro!!!

dballer, I'm back online now. Is there a diff between the left and right side head on a Pontiac? How do I tell which I have? Bolt holes on one end maybe?

the 68 Hemi Dart..... this is one Mopar that ran pretty well.

I also like all cars.. but I am partial to chevrolets. Mopars are notorious for having electical problems. I hate to fix wiring.

Coil spring cars get changed over to coil-over shocks with 4-link.... but even stock, you can run a stock suspension Chevelle into the 11's.

Talonracer... you sound as passonate about cars as me... and you are from PA!!! We got some shit in common!!!

yeah... look for where the Alt. mounts...

OK, I went and the Edelbrock name and number are on both ends and the holes are different at each end. It looks like they are the same left to right. All the holes go both ways if you turn it around, know what I mean?

The General Lee.... Daisy was hot.. but she was just a girl... the charger was not just a charger... it was just THE GENERAL LEE.... only the single most important car to my childhood!!!! Who is with me on this???

Oh jesus I remember when CHIPS was on and they'd wreck cars right and left. I loved the cars inthe show and I'd bitch up a storm if they toasted an oldie. I was way bent when they rolled the 73 T/A Estrada was driving. I'm a ponch freak so I remember being pissed for three or four days. I think I was 14 or so.

Come to think of it, the baddest car I ever heard was in an episode of CHiPs. It, too, was a Firebird. I wish I knew what cam he had in that fucker. It was a car thief episode and he drove a Formula Firebird. McQ with John Wayne was another with a badass 73T/A in it. Good chase scene, too. Best chase scene I remember is in 'To Live and Die in LA'

edit- Thanks dballer-I appreciate it greatly-Karma tossin time.

What about when they drove a forklift through the door of that T/A!!! I was soooo mad at that show... they got rid of tons of awesome muscle cars!!! CHiPS.. SUCKS ASS!!!

chevys, fords, mopars....many forget that buick built some kick-ass cars in the 60's and 70's.

i had a '64 riviera, 425 "nail head" buick engine, 2 4 barrel afb carbs (Awful Foickin' Bad), aluminum finned valve covers, HUDGE dual snorkel chrome air cleaner, "switch-pitch" turbo 400 transmission, red with white leather interior, every power option buick has at the time.

i loved to watch the expression on slack jawed, pimply fools in jacked up, ass in the air, loud mufflered camaros when this "gentleman's express" buick sucked their doors off from a twenty mph crack throttle challenge.

i also had a '71 "boat tail" riviera GS with the 360 horse power stage 1 455 engine, same effect on the kids in the dorm. "hey man, does that banana boat buick run?" HA-HA-HA!!!!! there was no hill, no freeway entrance ramp, no merging situation that would challenge that "banana boat buick's" acceleration.

"wouldn't you really rather have a buick?" ad slogan of the time
