Moving Advice...Please

If you are moving a small amount of furniture and boxes, is it worth it to rent a U-Haul or is it better to hire a moving company?

My last experience with a moving company freaked me out.

Is U-Haul a pain???

:)

Depends, U haul requires you to leave the trailer that evening at their desnigated centers. So if one is not in the area you are planning to move you either A- Pay an extra day
B-Haul it all the way back to where you last got it from.

I'd go U-haul.

I would go with the U-haul. I wouldn't trust those people with my things. I would load it up if I could.

if you go during the day there will be a bunch of mexican dudes wavin as you drive in....they'll be looking for day labor if you're incredibly desperate for movers. Skip 'em.

Ok... I will scope out U-Haul. There is one right down the street from me :)

Don't go at night. That's an order.

Are you far from San Diego?

I know an excellent moving/storage company there.

Personally - I couldn't be bothered - I'd get a mover but I'd pack all my own stuff.

Eh, call me a princess.

Then again I know a lot of movers.

lol... I know.... I was surrounded by them when I first moved here. They attack your car when you park. :worried:

Yeah... I'm a princess too.

I have a couple expensive pieces of furniture that I bought. I need that moved carefully. The rest I'm waiting to buy after.

Boxes I can handle.

You're the sweetest princess that I ever met.

Isn't true that U-Haul charges you extra if you drop off the trailer or truck at your destination rather than the location you picked it up from?

I prefer to do it myself...and I always rent a big truck, even if I don't need all of the space. I'd rather spend a few extra bucks than have to pack things in strategically like some sort of goddamned jigsaw puzzle. Moving is stressful enough...might as well eliminate one of the stresses if you can.

Imo, since it's kind of a small amount, go with U-Haul. If you hint around to a couple of guy friends that you need a few things moved & you entice them with a big cooler of ice cold beer & some good munchies....I bet you wouldn't have to lift a finger.
