Some of the most successful peeps I know are fucked up. I really think it's on how you were raised for the most part.

If you came from an angry, disfunctional home ... you have better odds of being "fucked up". If you came from a loving, caring home you have better odds of being well adjusted.

I think a simple barometer of measuring a parents success in raising small children is how happy the kids are. When you see a 2-7 y.o. that always seems happy and is well behaved his parents are doing something right.

A great shrink told me once back in the day that ALL parents fuck their children up. It is inevitable. The goal of good parenting is to raise your child with an "acceptable level of fucked-up-ness."

I kid you not. Those were his EXACT words. He really was one smart dude.
