I just put on the TV and I switched to the film channel...... I am watching Lethal Weapon 3 and that South African accent has to be one of the most annoying I've ever fucking heard.

Beside's that, Asian accents grate me some too.

If people are gonna speak my language, why can't they do it so I can understand WTF they are saying?

You can tell I'm still bored, can't you.

so do you speak any other languages? (i'm pretty sure i already know the answer to this). if so, can you speak them perfectly? if you went to another country and spoke that language, would you sound differently than the native inhabitants? would you be able to communicate better in that country if you didn't speak that language at all or if you could speak the language only not with a perfect accent?

erm, actually I do.....

Du bist eine gross aschlocke.

French!!!

everthing sounds so goddamned stupid!!! La.. froanzzzzzzz

ughhhhh!!!!!

scottish

and any accent realy that is soo heavy you have trouble understanding them. but scottish is the hardest. u go to parts of scotland and its lke they are speaking a totally different language. i had a 5 minute conversation with a train guard up there that was literally 'does this train go to dundee?' <in scottish accent> 'aye' <me> 'pardon me' x 20

Any accent that tends to make me realllllly listen to what they are trying to say can grate on my nerves.

Asian accents tend to be the worst for me to understand.

it's a big advantage to speak more than one language-but to
speak without accent is damn difficult.

i'm interested in how many diff languages do you learn in your
regular school?

we had 4: french, italian, german and english

We learnt French which I hated on account of the stupid accent, German which is cool as I like Germany and Germans(went out with one for 3years), Latin(boring), Italian and when I lived in Greece I tried to teach myself Greek with some success.

I have also studied Chinese(Mandrin), Shauna and am currently trying to pick up Phillipine.

My English spelling still sucks though.

My German accent is a shit lot more authentic than some of the Asians that have lived there all their lives. Than again, I make an effort.

Gonna have to second this one, and my name is even French. LOL.

nothing against the french... it is just hard for me to grasp the accent.

makes me laugh.

I do not hate any accents. Some make me laugh though.

I think so to...

definetely the towel head accent. It just makes me want to puke everytime I go into a 7-11 with one of those muslim suckers speaking that way. They all smell like curry too.

I think the South African accent on a chick is very sexy.

Real stong Irish or English accents are hard to understand when watching a movie with them in it.

Racist? I am talking about survival. Muslims want us dead. Don't you get it? Them suckers at 7 11 probaly have their suicide bombing suits ready to put on in the back store for when they get the call to strike. You wait those jerkwads will start doing the same thing here in no time. Get Ready smalls and stop being so naive.

-Boston accents. It's caR not caH.

-British accents are cool, but it is hard for me to distinguish gender.

-Any European accent coming from a woman is exotic, and a major turn on. Can't wait to get deployed overseas.

Liverpool accents are annoying. But then I always seem to be having trouble with scowsers.

As some are Doing a 180 from the post topic..

I met a Young Welsh woman from Wales England(west) and she could talk to me all day.. Sweet !

I´d never thought so many people actually know a little German.
Why did you learn it? There are better countries for holidays than Germany ;)

I love Germany. Nice country and people..... actually, despite what many people think a lot of English people like Germans..... quite similar in many ways.

And I went out with a German for many years..... the family are actually quite well known cars dealers in Germany.

Some class mates of mine went to GB in a student exchange and got some beatings for WWII :( (that was in 1998)

Shit!

Where the hell did they go.... I can't see that happening in the South but maybe in some parts of the North.

I had a German guy stay over at my house(exchange student) for a couple of weeks in 1991 and he had no problems. When I've been to Germany it's not something that was discussed.

I can´t remember where they did go exactly.
Guess it was just some trouble with a few drunken and unemployed idiots, we have some skin heads and neonazis ,too.
Where have you been in Germany?

Berlin
'The Reaper Bahn':D
Badmunsterifen(sp.?)

The Reaper Bahn was cool.

I won´t tell any1 what the Reeperbahn is ;) I´ve yet to visit it myself, i think i´ll go there when i have a little more spare coins :)

Berlin is cool, have you been in the Tresor?

Hehe.... I think some already know about the reeperbahn;)

You mean the club Tresor?

Funny topic but God Julez that is a horrible attitude. And you don't think it's frustrating to them that they cannot speak the language perfectly? Do you realize that some foreigners spend their money and time to take 'Accent Reduction' classes? Would you make such an effort if you lived in a foreign country?

I agree with bigs tho, accents do make people more interesting, irritating or not. HOWEVER, I'm patient with but irritated by the following accents:
Indian
New York/Jersey
Wisconsin or whichever region talks like Bobby's mom from Bobby's World

That is all. :)

Northern Ireland accent sucks. I like the rest of the Irish accents. People with hardcore Dublin accents are always funny fuckers.

I like that scouser Liverpool accent too. It's that horrible droning Birmingham accent I can't stand.

New York and New Jersey produce some hard on the ears accents.

Australian accents aren't really a mellifluous treat for the ears either.

Norman Bates said:
Yes, you have been there?

Yeah, they play Techno, if it is the club I think it is then it was good..... living near London though I tend to be spoilt here(with Trade and DTPM- I am more into hard house and dance).

Badmunsterifen was nice to.... do you know it?

I have a list

Brooklyn/Long Island, the thick accents, not the ones that are slight
Maryland/Baltimore accent, man that's bad
Dirty South Accent, or should I say, Dirty Souf
Thick French Accents
Wisconsin/Midwest accent

I just get pissed off by a lot of local Pakistani's/Indians that have lived here for their entire lives bit yet 'put on an accent'- speak fast, through in Urdu words. I will try and be understanding if they are sincerely making an effort. Otherwise, I just ignore them.

I also find a lot of 2nd generation Jamican's who have never even been there longer than a few weeks try to put on the accent...... that cracks me up as none of them can do it well.

I just think that if I live in a country than I will make an EFFORT to be understood, as I said my German accent is far more fluent than a lot of German Asians I have met and I've only ever been there for a matter of weeks at a time. Why, coz i make the effort and consequently a lot of Germans seem willing to help me with my grammar/vocab. when they see I am trying.

I know what you are saying but honestly it really pisses me off when people live in my country and can't be even be bothered to make an effort to be understood......

I see. :) Just don't ever act like one of those immature dickwads that make fun of foreigners to their faces when they are obviously making an effort to communicate. I cannot understand why some people feel the urge to act that way!

Massachusetts accent. Worst in the entire world. Hurts more than paper-cuts.

C'mon, I'll give you that but it can't be the worst accent. I'll top that one. How about Rhode Island? Who the hell talks like that anywhere in America? They can't even prounicate proper english and they're missing several letters in words the whole freakin' time! To me, they're talking in gibberish.

That reminds me of the Family Guy episode where Peter is looking at German history and says "Hey where is the history for 1939-1945"? The German yells "We were all on vacation".

IMO the worst accent is the Russian one, it annoys the hell out of me, I like Italian accents though, its usually cool.

I was trying to watch Trainspotting and i kept on telling myself that i don't understand one word they are saying! Scottish accents are alot harder to understand compared to irish and english accents.

LOOOL you get used to it, without any problems.

Funniest thing is that the word can go looooong you knoooow, especially in the north orrrrrrrr the weeeeest :D

i had a job answering a 1-800 hotline, so I have heard accents from every state.

I have to say, the minnesooooota/north dakota accent drove me the craziest!

couple of years back

In South Carolina, Im eating at Dairy Queen and the girl serving us had one hell of a thick accent, but damn she was sooooo cute, kinda flirting me.
Anyway she asked me

Da Yi waanttttttt suuum nopkan!!!!!

Im like WHAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

After 10 min, of repeating and saying What she shoved the napkin in my face LOL.

or West Virginia, stop to get some gas and the guy says: Cun wi chick yir HOLE!!!!!(oil)

Im like no thanx my hole is fine :D

I don't think I can really think of anything that I just can't stand. I kinda like accents. They add originality to people and give them character. Although, I have to admit, I am not the biggest fan of my Southern accent, which has gotten more pronounced over this summer. At times, it has a certain charm, but other times, I just hate how I sound.
