Mormons, You don't have to be afraid of black people anymore.

Its actually a pretty interesting book, I must amit though that i was a bit startled a few times. and more than a few times I was a bit baffled. I must say, Dabuffguy, I took your guidance/position about what dark skin meant into consideration. I have read a few more verses keeping your advice of not associating dark skin with black or african and instead, indian.

Read through the entire book and you will have a positive opinion of it as a whole. My favorite set of passages is Mosiah chapter 2 through 5. Very good words that fill your mind with a lot to think about.

What interested you in reading it in the first place?

Evil forces are at work. Don't let them lure you in, Ebony.

Says the person who listen to satanic death metal and has a habit of posting music videos screaming about murdering little babies etc. "Anal cunt" is the name of that band if I remember. Very wholesome stuff bro!

I'll have to read those passages carefully.:)

I decided to read it because of its advertising, I was reading the bible and got tired of all the different interpretation and shit was driving me crazy because then some of the views would contradict each other even those the original interpretation were to explain an a parent point of confusion/contradiction. I couldn't make sense of it and kinda gave up, so finally I got interested in the book of mormon because it claimed there was none of that and that every word is literally the word of god. This is a major reason why I was interested in the first place so thats why I didn't want you to any interpreting the word of God or in my mind, its like reading the bible again.

My friend also got me further interested in mormonism. She is a highly intelligent biochemist who was doing here PHD at the time. She was also a devout mormon. I didn't really know anything about the faith, except she seemed very content with the faith, so I gave it a go. :)

lol hahahhaha
moromons have always been super nice to me, so nothing personal but joey smith was a fraudster/huckster snake oil salesman.
one of his bigger fails was claiming to read egyptian heliogrphics (sp f.u) before the code had been tracked.
he thought he pulled a fast one...then a few yrs later an actual academic cracked the code and deciphered egyptian writings.
of course smith was not even close and it exposed him, along with many other instances, of being an epic scammer

Actually, there were many things that he got unmistakably correct as well that were a total shot in the dark, so it's not a cut and dry argument that the Book of Abraham is incorrectly translated or altogether a fraud.

In fact, if you studied and understood the english translation itself and dissected topics and passages, you would find that the literature is unmistakably of hebrew origin. Yes, hebrew, not egyptian. The descriptions of visions and such are unmistakably described in hebrew manner of speaking, and uses ancient hebrew modes of expression that are completely absent in english. Since it was supposedly written by a hebrew, writing in egyptian characters, this makes sense.

Equally, ancient hebrew poetic expressions are common in the Book of Mormon. Chiasmus mode is found in the book of mormon, and an entire chapter is written in it, which happens to be one of the longest and most complex examples of a chiasm ever known. Since the Book of Mormon people were a branch of migrated hebrews, this makes sense.

There are things people like to point out that would suggest that he was a fraud. The fact is, there are many many things that he did that proved him legit as well. His scriptural writings, however heavily criticized, have actually held up to the criticism and there are also many things that prove that his writings/translations are unmistakably inspired.

The Bible can be a task to understand. I actually love reading the Bible because it makes a lot of sense to me.

The Book of Mormon basically says the same things the Bible does from a doctrinal stand point, however it expresses those ideas very clearly so that any misinterpretation of the Gospel of Christ is hard to do.

For example, many Christians believe the Bible says that man is saved only through faith in Jesus. However, James Chapter 2 in the bible defines that true faith is manifest by our actions and how we live (our works) meaning that true faith can only exist if we follow and live the word of Christ, and not just believe in Jesus to be saved. Many contend and argue over this whether it is literal or not, most taking the position that all efforts for salvation were fulfilled through Christ's death on the cross and only a declaration of devotion and faith in Christ is necesarry.

Now, the Book of Mormon clearly states, and I'll paraphrase it, that although there is no salvation without Christ, we still have a personal responsibility to actually do what Christ says and keep the Commandments of god, which is exactly what James Chapter 2 in the Bible was saying in the first place.

More simply put, you better walk the walk or all your profession of belief goes unsupported because there is no evidence of your faith if you aren't doing what Jesus says you should be doing.
