Freeman outspoken in 60 Minutes interview

Morgan Freeman and Mike Wallace joke during a visit in Clarksdale in April.
Those unfamiliar with Morgan Freeman's work may find the actor's comments regarding Black History Month rather interesting.
Freeman, a native of Charleston and favorite son of Clarksdale, will be featured at 7 p.m. Sunday on CBS News program 60 Minutes.
During the profile which was filmed in April, Mike Wallace asked the Academy Award winner his thoughts on the month, which Freeman calls "ridiculous."
Freeman said that he is against a special month because it separates black history from American history and helps foster racism.
"You're going to relegate my history to a month?" he asked, further noting there is no "white history month." "I don't want a black history month. Black history is American history."
Freeman said the notion of a special month for black history may be hurting rather than helping efforts for racial equality.
The statement prompted Wallace to retort that without Black History Month, racism may be harder to stop.
"How are we going to get rid of racism?" he asked.
"Stop talking about it!" Freeman answered, saying the labels of "black" and "white" are an obstacle to beating racism.
"I am going to stop calling you a white man and I'm going to ask you to stop calling me a black man," he said. "I know you as Mike Wallace. You know me as Morgan Freeman.
"You wouldn't say, 'Well, I know this white guy named Mike Wallace.' You know what I'm saying?" Freeman asked the reporter.
Freeman, who won his first Oscar this year for a support role in Million Dollar Baby, also discusses his acting career and several Academy Award nominations, his love of sailing and piloting airplanes.
