like i said earlier, what responsibility does disney have to market moore's crap??? he acts like he's some sort of victim that a private company feels that moore's movies are a bunch of virulent lies.

I have a question for you silly people. What does it mean when in a 300 million people country, one guy gets on top of the oil business, then becomes president, then his son becomes president and his other son becomes the governour of florida?

Is that how democracy works?

Yep. Any other questions?

People voted for them. Maybe the population is stupid, that's a good point but it remains democracy... what about King/Queens in Europe ?

How do the facts you prefaced with contradict the idea of democracy?

And BTW this is a republic Robert.

Kings and Queens have no political power. not for like, 100 years.

They do often have to sign laws before they are official for instance, but they wouldn't dare refuse, that would probably cause an immediate end of the monarchy.

The Belgian king refused to sign a law on legalised first trimester abortions for religious reasons, and they just abdicated him for one day and had his replacement sign it, then brought him back.

Well how big are the chances that out of 300 million people, a guy and his son and his other son, best suit the desires of the people for a leader?

But they cost taxpayers money right ? That itself is enough to have them kicked out IMHO...

The Dutch Royal family in total owns about a billion euros, without ever doing much work. I'd hate to be in their place though, they are the gossip industry's favourite milkcow and they can't go out and spend any of that money without people complaining look at what that fuck is doing with my tax money.

They own a crapload of money but it is all in things that are at least to some degree valuable to the country, they own lots of art that is displayed, they own beautiful unique mansions that might get knocked down otherwise and its a pretty fixed 1 billion dollars. they dont spend all that much they just sit on it.

Our crown prince is actually sayd to do useful work, but he's pretty dumb so I doubt it. The monarchy according to its supporters fulfils a patriotising, joining binding duty on our country.

The mother of our Queen actually used to have quite some power and use it to enforce a more socialist government. but that was decades ago and it was more than democratic, people love(d) her.

"Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large numbers."

The queen actually has a weekly 2 hour long closed meeting with the president, always, right through electory periods.

Nobody really knows what they discuss I guess. but I doubt she can force him to do anything at all. When asked a president always says the long experience of the queen in talking to all these presidents over the years is useful. It might just be a completely meaningless formality though.

Here she's reading out the annual new budget plan. She has an annual long speech on the state of the nation too. She authors neither.

"the people" do not elect our presidents, the electoral college does. And with only a few exceptions our presidents have always been wealthy, and probably very powerful as well. It takes money to compaign and it takes power to have influence with people that can get you elected. And no one candidate in the country could possibly ever really represent the values and interests of such a huge and homogenous population but we of course know we have to settle on one. Just forget the idea of ANY one person doing that. They are purposely vague about their specific ideas while campaigning in order to attract as many people as possible and we in turn know we are going to have to settle on one.

You are assuming that every American has the chance to become President, which is false. Only the upper class, or the elite rich, really have any shot of running for upper government. It takes money and connections to even campaign for something like that. The majority of America's wealth is family centric, it remains within certain families / circles. In essence it is a self sustaining class.

You're one out of 300 million becomes a much much smaller number when taking this into account.
