mma schools in oki

USMC fighter

New member
Hey everyone! Does anyone know of any mma gyms in Okinawa? Im getting stationed there in august for the next three years, and id love a good place to train. Thanks in advance

I never got stationed there but i had friends. None ever said anything about MMA schools there. Every one i know hated Oki. and from what i hear Okinawans dont like marines much either. Has the Marine martail arts program changed it the last 2 years. When i was in we did lots of grappling and "harnding drills" Kicking eachothers shins and bashing forarms to kill the nerves. Oh by the way from what i was told about Oki. you got 2 choices work out or become a alcholic there. I hope you do not choose to drink all the time like i did while i was in and get out with no money.hahaha

No the trainning hasnt changed much, and i spent a year in oki back in 97 needless to say i went the pt freak way. Im hoping to atleast train some bjj or mt or both while im there

Ok you been in a while then sorry though you were on your first enlisment. It would be cool if you were stationd with some guys that were into MMA. I was with a few most of the guys that claimed to know anything were complet tools. Good luck finding a school and training partners.

Never seen anything but Shorin-ryu and Kung fu on the rock, but I haven't been lately. I bet there's at least a few guys in the gym on Hansen or Schwab practicing MMA.

i like the marine corp martial arts system a lot! good stuff there and you should have someone to help train you with that.. if not find someone lower rank and make them :)

thats what my buddy did at first now he is a brown belt instructor for the art

shouldnt there be someone in the corp you can talk to about training? also i know in oki that there is judo.. not sure where or anything like that but i trained with a 6th degree blackbelt who did all his training/competition while he was stationed in oki

good luck

YA know judo ithought about that, ill def keep training in the Marine martial arts program, but id really like to supplement it with one or more arts. Ive been considering judo, but i think the combative style, other than the sport style, would be more usefull to me. Im 31 allready and id love so start cage fighting as soon im confident ill make a good showing.
