mixing protein shakes in a blender

i have heard that mixing protein shakes in the blender then drinking them is not as effective as just mixing them with a spoon or something and leaving it all clumpy. frankly i hate the taste of clump and was wondering if the blender thing was a myth of had some reasoning behind it.

actually it was a freind "tails007" who saw me mixing up a 80g protein shake and said that i should use a fork. i still used it in a blender tho.

I actually saw on a protein container that you shouldn't use a blender with it.... too bad I can't find it anymore... Something about how it breaks up the bonds and basically degrades it.

Somebody make sure and pass this on to Muscular Warrier. He might be mixing his Myoplex in a blender.

Blender will have no negative effect

Mechanical agitation will have no effect on the chemical bonds of the protein. It's like saying that a blender will break up water into hydrogen and oxygen. Last time I checked that didn't happen.

As long as you don't throw the shake into the microwave you are fine :)

It just so happens my blend DOES do this. It's quite annoying.

Damn blender

Haha, well then your wiring is f'd and you have a current going through the water. Probably not the safest thing :)

I just press the clump button on my blender and it clumps the protein up tight and I swallow them like golf balls and chase them with milk I find that I get a good pump afterwards hehe in my mid section for some reason.

Cheers acobs you slag.

I was told that by a ntional level bodybuiler who owns his own shop in the UK... i was inclined to believe him..guess he was wrong. O well

Blending it with a blender or using a spoon isnt going to make any type of difference to the protein itself. The clumps are annoying as fuck, but I guess there are some proteins out there that are mixable by spoon. (Anyone?) As far as using the blender, remember that the longer you blend it, the more air that will be the in the shake, making it frothier, which can lead to gas or bloating.

Not a knock on you tails, but just an example of how listening to some of these Einstein's isn't always the best choice. I just hope we don't see a post soon that says "How does my 7g/week test cycle look- a professional bodybuilder told me to do it".

I use a blender.. but how can I keep it from getting all full of air?? The last few gulps are all nasty foam/froth..

 blender? You mean all these years I was supposed to be mixing my protein powder with water or juice!?!?! Jeez, I've just been using a spoon and chewing it. That stuff is dry, gritty, and tastes like sawdust. Juice an a blender would have made it a lot better. Wish I'd seen this thread years ago.

Why do you guys put in your shakes? I just throw cold water and protein in a shaker. Is there a need for a blender anyway? Unless your throwing in fruit or chunks of something in there?

I used to use a blender- too much hasle- clean up. Now I just throw my protein in a shaker bottle and shake the shit up and:drink2: down the hatch. Although I would probably be still using my blender if my girlfriend didn't throw it off the balcony...I guess she got sick of hearing it fire up a 3 a.m. when I got up to pee. :D

i put 6 scoops of whey in my shakes. each scoop is 14g and the protein is 75% so thats 10.5g per scoop. and i also add 500ml of milk which works out at another 17g of protein. so i have 80g in a shake. then mix with a blender. i also like to add some nesquick, or chrusha so it makes it into a real milkshake. much more drinkable. i brought a 15kg/33lb bag or pure unflavoured whey which tastes malty, so i tend to put the milkshake mix in. great deal at $145. so i can afford to put loads in each drink.
nowadays i get most of my protein from shakes because they have more protein than food, they dissolve quicker, and i hate eating constantly when u dont realy have time to make things. i can make a protein shake in about 2 minutes if i try.
i have noticed that the longer u blend it for the frothier it gets. ill have to stop that. to stop it getting frothy just strain it.
also u can make it at the beginning of the day and leave it in the fridge and when u want a drink just whack in on the blender for a whizz and it becomes thin again. it tends to thicken if u leave it for a while.

I never understood this. When you put a piece of chicken in the microwave, does the protein in it go "bad".
