Military DB press- standing or sitting?

Synpax, I can relate to you. . I also perform them standing. For some reason, I feel that it is much more difficult and I think the standing position uses more stabilizer muscles. I personally prefer performing this exercise in a standing position.

When using the seated position, it can be difficult getting heavy dumbbells into the correct position for pressing. If you are without a partner, this typically involves cleaning them up, managing to sit down, and press from the bottom position. This can be difficult if you are using higher than 90lb dumbbells.

The fact of the matter is that both exercises target the same muscle groups. . its just a matter of finding something you like.

Thanks. I was thinking about potential back problems from doing it standing up. Still, I like doing it standing up more.

Many people lean way back when they press overhead. You should press those suckers so they are almost behind your head at lockout. Think of how the weights are at the end of a behind-the-neck press. That's where you want those dumbbells to end up.

Yeah baby

As long as your lower back is strong...not much is dangerous on it.

The hazard though, especially with using the higher weights in a standing position, is cheating with the legs; something you cannot do while sitting.

However, it's difficult to stay in proper position while sitting. Most guys end up leaning back too far and end up doing almost an incline bench movement.

I believe you can choose how to do them based on your own personal goals.

If your goals are overall body strength, then standing would be of better benefit.

If your goals are bodybuilding, seated would be easier to focus more directly on your delts, and take your back out of the equation.

Coleman did his seated. His goals are for big delts, not a strong core.

Strongmen and other strength athletes primarily do them standing. A strong core is essential to them.

Thanks.

I am doing them to develop my delts, as they are part of leg and shoulder day in my routine.

I have no idea how you could possible cheat with your legs. Or at least I know my legs are playing no part in the exercise.

Next time I will put my back in the same position I do (arched) as with the squats and deadlifts.
