Might get laid off. Thinking about joining army...

Im exempt from basic (been to marine basic, not exactly piggly wiggly) so its direct to OCS where they are all coooleege grads. thats not exactly something they can skirt in the contract. If thats a fat lie then I would figure it out easily. Im not making any rash decisions and will get all the information I can before doing anything. I hope all vets dont act like you do when someone shows interest in serving in the military.

Rewad your K note

If all the guys that have just been in the Army say the same thing then I am not alone for sure. Read the post of (above)machine..

If you have been to boot camp then why didn't you stay in the Marines? You would now be somewhere looking for more ice cream for the generals dinner party (as an officer)Or who knows where, but you sure wouldn't be on EF.

Plus if you listend to me you wouldn't even think about joining. But, I am a vet, I did serve, but I was drafted. I just happened to join the Army(the day I saw my draft number, which was 3) because I didn't want to be stuck on a big boat with a bunch of guys sleeping above me.

There is no way anyone in the Army cares what your experience is, they train you to do what they want you to do.

Anyone that has ever been in the service knows you have absofuckinglootly no control where with whom or as what MOS you will be. And if you don't fit a profile your days being "exempt" are counted as 1. As I was told there are two people that are exempt from Basic and AIT those that don't join and those that don't join. This was a recruiter just a few minutes ago. More fine print I would expect. Remember, there is the Army way and there is the Army way. Marine training counts for "0"

Either way Broly, good luck. If you join or get a real job I am still old tired and sore from my time with Uncle Sam.

If you join - get ready for the brainwashing!!! I remember when Sgts would tell us fighting in Iraq was all about American Freedoms for our kids!! lol!!

You're a tool of the President. Government property. Don't read too much more than that. Worst thing yuou can do is join the army, and 'start thinking for yourself'. People will enjoy breaking you down if you start doing that.

Being a civilian rules!

I know a chick that got a commission in the army at age 41, no OCS and an age waiver, the army is dying for officers. After the intro to the army course they give doctors and lawyers (she's military intelligence) she went straight to OBC.

didnt the marine corp a few years back offer a 12 month enlistment option? 1 tour and that was it? I would like that, but

got laid off today, official.
I feel like nostradamus up in this bitch

Get a temp job to tide u over, or get UI - then Apply for a federal job.

All agencies are always hiring, plus you have none of that getting laid off, recession bullshit private sector retards always have to worry about.

And to think I skipped over an IRS Revenue Agent position when they came to campus giving out interviews. I skipped that gem because the interviews began after the start date for the job i just lost. For the job I just lost they actually offered me a later start date haha. But I just couldnt waaaaaaaaiiit to get into this lovely accounting firm only to get shitcanned 6 months later.
And IRS plainly states on all their usajobs posting "The IRS affords quality of life with a 40-hour workweek". Try finding that statement on a public accounting firm listing, no chance.

SD pwnt by impatience/shit economy combo

UI = Unemployment Insurance.

Best decision my parents ever made - was getting a federal job. For my entire childhood, while others worry about economy, getting laid off, stress, work drama, etc. - my parents had stable good jobs for decades. We could buy a nice house, never worried about moving, no stress in the family, pension, and stable paychecks.

Plenty of people freakin' out now cuz they picked the higher private sector paycheck over stability. And now they're paying the price. There's much more competition now for federal jobs cuz of the economy - but use your veteran's status to your advantage. If you're not picky of what agency to get 'your foot in the door' - you should be able to get in within months. Once in - it's much easier to switch jobs/agencies.
