DETROIT, Michigan (AP) -- James Nichols, the brother of Oklahoma City bombing conspirator Terry Nichols, says he was tricked into appearing in the documentary "Bowling for Columbine," according to a federal lawsuit filed against filmmaker Michael Moore.


Nichols also alleges in the lawsuit, filed Monday in Detroit, that Moore libeled him by linking him to the terrorist act.

Nichols accuses Moore of libel, defamation of character, invasion of privacy and intentional infliction of emotional distress.

His lawyer is asking for a jury trial and damages ranging from $10 million to $20 million on each of nine counts, the Detroit Free Press reported.

A message seeking comment was left Tuesday with Moore's publicist.

In the film, Moore asks Nichols for an interview and steers the subject from the Oklahoma City bombing to gun ownership. Nichols tells Moore he has a gun under his pillow, and Moore asks Nichols to show him.

In the lawsuit, Nichols, who lives in Decker, said Moore misled him about the purpose of the interview.

"Bowling for Columbine" won the feature-length documentary Academy Award earlier this year.

Only if you read them for entertainment and don't put too much weight on his "facts" - he is notorious for citing things and then when you doublecheck his "facts" he has taken things out of context or just made them up so that they suit him better.

If you view his stuff as something closer to satire and just someone pushing the buttons and asking outrageous questions - but not as someone that is entirely correct in their display of the facts, then I think you might find entertainment value there.

That is one way that he might get off on this lawsuit - if he can claim satire.

I personally find him enjoyable, but in the same way that seeing people in pain or car crashes are enjoyable - it is just hard not to watch.

I have to admit that Moore does raise some valid and interesting questions with his films.

However, he does at the expense of making such an ass of himself that I almost feel sorry for the guy.

For instance, him asking the cop who was responsible for the smog in LA and why they aren't pursing the people who are responsible.

The cop totally ignored his dumb ass.

Not to mention that I am sure Moore DROVE A CAR all around LA.

He's as guilty as anyone.

Another example of his bone headedness... How the child that shot a fellow classmate (with his uncle's gun) did it because his mother had to work long hours to make ends meet.

You should have to give back any awards your "documentary" got if you claim in court it was a satire. I dont so much mind what he says or does, its just how he cloaks it in fact and as a documentary, when Bowling flew in the face of true documentaries.

He was investigated himself for the bombing but they didn't have enough evidence to nail him. Moore did nothing slanderous. Nichols made himself look like a total freak in that interview. I like Michael Moore.. sure he seems to have been guilty at times of stretching the truth and clever editing, but basically 'Bowling for Columbine' is mostly a fair and intelligent look at what drove the columbine killers to kill......

I like what Marilyn Mansun says in that ffilm about him being held up as a symbol of all that is wrong in the world; yet it is the president that hold the power....

You need more like him....
