Mexico Report - Stay Away!

I want to share my TJ experience for anyone considering this trip. I was there today (not to buy gear), and had an encounter with the TJ police. A friend (my training partner) and I were walking down the street and a police truck drove past us twice. On the second pass he turned around and came up on us from the wrong side of the street. Two cops jumped out of the truck and yelled for us to stop. They instructed us to stand with our hands on the hood, and they searched both of us. They asked several times if we were there to buy "medicine", and wanted to know where we planned to buy from. I insisted that purchasing drugs without a prescription is illegal, and that drug use is life abuse. They had 3 guys handcuffed in the bed, and apparently been driving them around town like that. I wasn't about to join them, and every time he reached toward his belt (I thought he was reaching for handcuffs), I would stand back and take an aggressive stance. They just kept telling us to relax, and kept insisting that we were there to buy medicine. Eventually he let us go - and didn't even attempt to take our cash. When we got back to the beginning of Revolution - they were waiting for us, and watched every move we made. I decided to abandon all shopping plans and exit the country - and I will never go back. I've been going there for 13 years and I've never had a problem, but things have changed drastically down there. Stay safe - stay away!

Yeah, stay away. There are a few good mexican bros around that can get you your gear and they are well respected/trustworthy.

I eneded up in the back of the truck because I didnt know my girlfriend bought valium!! They will drive around with the people in the truck until its full then bring them to border!!!

I went through something similar almost 20 years ago. I did the same thing....refused to be cuffed and walked RAPIDLY towards the border! It was a bluff and it worked.

LOL....I always put some money in my sock when going to Mexico. I have had many bad experiences with the federalis there. TJ is really just a straight up shady place.

id snap a federali's arm if he tried to unlawfully shake me down

That is simply horrible, how could the Mexican officials be so stupid, what do they think we come there for, the culture, the great food, health care, the water?

What is going on with those guys? It can’t last like this, I wonder who pushed what button for the Federalizes or local cops to get a bug up there butt and do anything.

Normally those guys are only good for one thing, guaranteed to accept a bribe.

Harass tourist in TJ, I am going to blame 9/11 for this too, but that just seems to logical, maybe the jazz with Barry Bonds, congressional hearings, blah, blah, blah,

Hate to sound like an old fart, but things really were a lot better 10 years ago,
Argue with the pharmacist about price, the hooker about price, smoke there fake Cuban cigars, buy stupid silver salutes, cherry bombs and drink there stupid beer.

Thanks for the update

Home brewing, here I come.

TJ Cops must be doing their once monthly pre-paycheck shakedown. Got to add a little padding to their low pay with a few extra greenbacks$$$. I can't believe I never went to jail in TJ. I did some crazy shit back in the day when I was stationed at Pendleton.

I've never seen a police presence in TJ the way it was today - and that's really saying something. I made a trip on Mexican election day in 1994 after Colosio was shot.

TJ cops were everywhere today! They had foot patrol up and down Revolution. Cops were standing every other block on the corners. The asshole in the truck was making loops around Revolution and Constitution. We got stopped on Constitution. I had $560 in my pocket - and walked away with all of it. I would have ended his pathetic life before I would have given him $1, or gotten in that disease-ridden truck.

Honestly with all the sources availible to us...why even think about going down there....Do you save that much money..?...and if so is it really worth it..?

In Cabo, I bought about 800 stenox (halo) tabs. Never saw a single police goon on the streets there.

And they would beat you half to death and throw you in a mexican prison because then you did break the law. Not ripping, just saying.

It's just politics boys. The U.S. is meeting this week with the Mexican government to find out how they can reduce the drug wars in Mexico. That country is just getting out of hand. They are doing everything possible to show the U.S. they are trying to manage the borders better. Including cracking down on AAS.

You make a great point - and I agree (it's all politics).

What I don't agree with is wasting of tax dollars chasing down those involved in a victimless crime. I'm currently watching an ex-girlfriend slowly kill herself living on the street with a crack and heroin addiction, but my balls are being busted over AAS. Where is the sense in that?

i guess a foreigner in mexico is easy game and a good way to perhaps extort some money - at least that's what they probably think?

A few years agao a buddy of mine ran a stop sign right off Revolution and hit another car, because didn't have Mexican insurance or the money it was going to take to fix the other car they threw him in jail. He was stuck there for a week before they let him make a phone call, he told me he survived on gray soup and moldy bread.

When he finally got a hold of his wife he informed her she needed $1500.00 to get him out but when she got there they said it wasn't enough and demanded another $1000.00 before they'd release him which meant she had to come back over to the states to get the money. Needless to say that was the last time he went to Mexico

I agree. There's no sense in it. However there's not a lot of sense in many things our government does.

I'm not sure how he saved me from being busted at the border, because the last time I checked there isn't anything illegal about walking down the street or crossing the border. I wasn't there for gear - didn't have anything on me - didn't carry anything across the border. I was harassed for WWW (walking while white) in Mexico.

I go down there every now and then, and i have learned something which can be apply to any country (or person to that matter) and is to just follow their game. Don't be stupid and believe that by posing an offensive attitude towards them you are doint the right thing, the trick here is to be intelligent and show them that you respect them (even if you don't) and don't attack their pride because like any person in the world if you do that you will suffer the consecuenses no matter what country you are in.

They do that especially with people with the "Gringo" looking type (more if you are buff) since the big bust down there in mexico for the gear companies, and is very well known that people from America goes down there either for party or to buy cheap medicine/gear, so instead of doing enemies make some friends down there.

I already know two cops in TJ and one of them hook me up with a vetenerian down there were i get my stuff very, very cheap. It cost me $100 bucks for the info but if i get into trouble they got my back and they work the Revolution area. Just last week i bump into their police truck and they just wave at me.

So be smart and you will be fine.

When I was doing the Mexico thing back in the late '80's I had a cop connection. I routinely walked across at Nuevo Laredo with over 200 Sust redi-jects.

Is just a matter of "working" the place were you are and the people you know down there, people tend to reciprocate how you treat them. Like i said i known several guys down there and when i need something in particular i just call them and meet with them.

Just remember this, always be safe.

That's a riot! They dropped you back at the US border like migrant workers.

The mexican police are stopping and harrassing for one reason - money. I have post EF from a couple years ago about my experience in TJ. After they got a couple hundred dollars off of me because they found some xanax and Anavar, I simply asked for the drugs back and they gave them to me. Even though minutes earlier they were explaining how much trouble I was in because I didn't have prescription. I knew it was bullshit and just wanted to get rid of them as cheaply as possible.

I think resisting with them can get you in bigger trouble. About 4-5 cops eventually ended up being at the scene. The could have easily put me into car and then produce a small bag cocaine that they could claim they found on me if they wanted to.
