It isn't a joke. It's real and I looked it up

boy this will result in a lot of jobs lost here on the west coast. And you wonder why Bush has to bend over for Mexico. It'll only get worse.

"A Mexican customs facility planned for Kansas City's inland port may have to be considered the sovereign soil of Mexico as part of an effort to lure officials in that country into cooperating with the Missouri development project.

Despite adamant denials by Kansas City Area Development Council officials, WND has obtained e-mails and other documents from top executives with the KCSmartPort project that suggest such a facility would by necessity be considered Mexican territory – despite its presence in the heartland of the U.S.

The documents were obtained with the assistance of Joyce Mucci, the founder of the Mid-America Immigration Reform Coalition, under the provisions of the Missouri Sunshine Law from the City of Kansas City, Mo., and from the Missouri Department of Economic Development.

The documents reveal a two-year campaign initiated in 2004 and managed by top SmartPort officials to win Mexico's agreement to establish the Mexican customs facility within the Kansas City "inland port." Kansas City SmartPort launched a concerted effort to advance the idea, holding numerous meetings with Mexican government officials in Mexico and in Washington to push the Mexican port idea in concert. The effort involved Missouri elected officials, including members of the U.S. House of Representatives and Senate.

I dont understand what good will a mexican customs do inside the US for the mexican immigrants

the mexican government, with the us government depending so much on them now - will have even more leverage.

Which translates into 'jump! how high?' type situation. No US President will dare anger Mexican officials basically.

china also has us by the balls, but politicaly they leave us alone as long as buy their products.

I should start swearing allegiance to the mexican president. My true president.

"If the project is approved, Kansas City would function much like a dual U.S.-Mexican port at the border. Mexican and U.S. officials would work side by side processing long lines "

US taxpayers are funding this.

We are basically funding our OWN transfer of jobs. Wow, dumb us.

The US letting mexico dictate Washington policy started long before Bush. However, no President thereon has had the balls to start serving Americans, not foreigners.

I guess "We will give mexicans jobs, and build their customs offices in the US, and make them mexican soil, with your tax dollars ... IF YOU ELECT ME!" doesn't garner too many votes.

Easier to do sneakingly when americans are preoccupied with Iraq and other shit. :)

all this moving jobs in Mexico is effecting Michigan the most. A lot of the cars and parts went there, causing Ford and GM to close factories. Now because of Mexico and the Japanese cars (I blame the amrecan Union 80%) MI is the state with the most unemployment

Since it is Mexican Customs, it would be inspecting items for EXPORT TO Mexico, not import from. You go through US Customs when you come back from a foreign country, not when you go out of the country.

This is most likely being built to facilitate products that are going to be leaving a facility in the midwest TO MEXICO, and will be sealed after inspection so that they can cross the boarder unhindered. It makes sense if you don't turn Overland Park into KC's Tijuana.

Actually it's the other way around.

A $187 billion highway from mexico is planned which allows mexican trucks to travel to kc. Where mexican customs unload the load alongside us customs (so goods aren't inspected twice, waste of time/money).

I do'nt think mexico customs cares what's leaving mexico now. They don't even check when you enter mexico.

What really sucks is the *increased* leverage mexico has in Washington. When you're in business with another country - it's hard to dictate policies against them. Can't sign a treaty, then agree to kick out your nationals in the same sentence.

Oddly, in the end - we are paying for all this. All hail the us taxpayer. Subsidizing big business and giving jobs to foreigners. We're probably gonna give money for the creation fo ports in mx. ha! We're so stupid.

(irony - i'm prolly gonna make money from this from a venture i have :) )

Ok... So you are still saying that Mexican Customs is responsable for checking goods leaving Mexico (not entering it) and that the US customs will not check the goods coming into the USA?

they want to reserve that right, tho it'll prolly be us customs inspecting all.

Gotta give an olive branch to mexican customs - cuz they'll want to inspect all merchandise, including us-intended cargo at port in mexico. Meaning extra cost and delay. So to prevent double inspections and sweeten the offer - they'll have all customs inspections import/export to be done in kc.

Which means us customs will do everythihng, but mexico will still want it as mexican soil with mexican customs agent, just so it looks better for them. Even if they won't do squat.
