Mercedes Benz G500... What's all the hype about?

That SUV, if I'm correct, is built partially or entirely for MBZ by outside contractors, and some of them have Peugeot engines. Jean-Claude Van Damme had one, and they had a big following on the west coast about 10 years ago. I wouldn't want one, but I have nothing neg or pos to say about them otherwise. But just know it's not a real Mercedes, according to what I remember.

Like somebody else said, engineers that design expensive vehicles do not expect them to be used as an everyday driver. A lot of exotic sports cars that are pushing 7-8 years old only have 20,000 miles or less on them.

I'm still keeping my 2000 Chevy Blazer whenever the time comes to get a new car. It's paid off, only has 127,000 miles on it, the v6 Vortec engine can easily last 300,000 miles, parts are extremely cheap, my insurance for it is $60/month, and it drives well. If you have a similar vehicle that is reliable and paid off for, and won't get much on a trade in, I would do the same.

Well it's made in Austria by Steyr Daimler Puch, which is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Daimler Benz. Steyr Puch has a history of making rugged offroad vehicles like the Haflinger and the Unimog. The G-Wagen used to be available as a Puch G for the Austrian market, Peugeot was licenced to make a version of this vehicle for the military.
