I like the old school Mentzer but his more recent reccomendations to perform one set of dips and deadlifts then spend the next two weeks worrying if you're overtraining were far from awesome.
Mentzer would argue you're not training truly hard if you can do it for a long time. I'd have to say he's right. If you do a single set of 20 rep breathing squats as I've talked about, you are unable to do any additional quad work. I had to move stiff legged deadlifts to a different day (I usually train these together with squats) because I couldn't even keep my legs stable. And this was with 15 full minutes of rest after the squat set.
Why is that? So , when I repeat a 75 rep drop set on preacher curls, 3 times, Im not going to complete failure on the 75th rep? Even though my arms can no longer hold the bar? As far as I am concerned I train to failure. How can I lift anymore when the arms go limp? Most people Ive seen cant even complete 30 reps on this type of routine. They cant even defeat the pain of the set. I fucking enjoy it personally. 5 minutes later Im ready to go at it again. Then again.
