I would defintely like to see more stores with the following attributes...
Good quality, classic, dressy designs for shirts and pants. There are enough trendy stores out there.
Good assortment of ties and belts. I think it would be cool to set up your displays so that someone could walk in, and find a complete outfit in the same area of the store. Like a pant rack next to shirts and ties that complent each other. By color, pattern etc. Get customers to buy as many accessories as possible. Socks, ties, belts, hell, even wallets. Have your employees wear the same style that you sell. Kind of like a walking, talking manequin.
Armani, Donna Karren, Hugo Boss, Calvin Klein (the Italian stuff, not their sweatshop crap) Those are my favorite upper-end styles. As for suits, three and four button should be fine. Carry the traditional Solids along with a few newer styles like Windowpane. I reckon you need to do some market 'surveying' to see if your town will support a higher-end clothing store if you go that route.

I assume that you don't have the capital to start a department store, but I would stick with a 'boutique' style anyways. It may be more benificial to stock the majority of your items in the back so that the display area doesn't get cluttered.
IMO, it would be great to have on-site tailoring/fitting. Customer service and little extras like that make businesses stand out from the crowd. Of course, having an on-site tailor may put too much on your plate.
Oh yeah, you might even try carrying some slick watches.
