Melatonin and AAS

I read in one of my old steroid books that melatonin can reduce the effectiveness of steroids. The book is a little outdated in some of its info (it was published in '97) but all in all, still an interesting read. I do take alot of melatonin, so was wondering if it truly can be limiting my potential while on cycle.

I take 3 mg a night to help me sleep, and if it hinders gains from aas, then it's very minimal or close to nonexistant, because my gains have been great and pretty consistant

im very sceptical about tihs claim, their was a study in rats that showed melotonin to supress natural overnight testosterone release but the doses for a human would have to be like 300mg not 3mg

So it's OK for rats on roids to use melatonin. That's cool, I'll spread the word.

?

the rats were not on roids, they were given ALOT of meatonin (dont know how much and dont have the study) the enormous amount of melotonin reduced the rats testosterone levels, like i said per lb of body weuight humans would have to take like 300mg of melatonin

The book is called "Physical Enhancement With an Edge" by S.L Hominuk (published:1997)
Under the chapter of side effects, he writes about insomnia.
Quote: "Normal sleep patterns can easily be obtained once again by terminating the steroid treatment. Occasional use of over-the-counter remedies, sleeping pills, or Melatonin may offer some relief. However, the use of Melatonin on a continued basis with the use of steroidal compounds is not recommended, due to the possibility of Melatonin's ability to lessen the anabolic effects of steroids."

As I stated, the book is a little outdated. He does not offer up any clinical or real-life data to substantiate this, so I am a little sceptical. I too use Melatonin fairly frequently, so was just curious if anyone else has ever heard this.

does it say by what mechanism melotin lessens the anabolic effect of as, bc that doesnt really make any sense

Agreed, it does not seem to make sense to me either. And as I said, no, he does not offer up any data on the mechanism. I quoted the text verbatim. That is why I too am skeptical and questioning his statements on this forum. :)

word, my personal advice then, disregard that statement cuz like i stated above the only thing i have ever read about melatonin even close to what you posted was the study on rats using enormous amnounts that are in no way practical for the amounts we use, and even in that study it had nothing to do with exogenous testosterone (AS)
