meet attempts

This might sound weird but if you are competing do you guys go balls out or do you save some in the tank and somewhat be conservative with your attempts and just try and be 9 for 9. Ex. the meet is a tune up for nationals.
 
i don't open with my best gym lift, but will try and match or just beat it on my second and set a pr on the 3rd. you need to get on the board first imo, bombing out won't cut it
 
i usually go with a weight i can triple for an opener. get a feel for that, and choose your weight for 2nd, usually your pr, then go for a new pr third.
 
I don't think going 9 for 9 is any big deal at all. I get more satisfaction missing on a third but hangin' it out there and goin' for it.
 
Get your opener at a respectible weight, maybe close to your PR but still safe, and then go for it on the second and third attempts. If you want to play it safe then get out of powerlifting and start playing checkers.
