There is now a limited prescription drug benefit. We will now be GIVING money to old people for prescription drugs.

This is great: our policy is now to let the most expensive people in society consume even more.

We are paying them to bankrupt us.

Work harder you fools! There's an 80 year old with 17 diseases that needs your money to live a life that amounts to laying in bed all day.

Ranger

Why should YOU be paying for my grandparents, when they had their whole lives to save money, buy insurance, and make good lifestyle decisions?

Old people who can no longer produce are simply voting themselves a bigger share of what workers are producing.

Legalized theft!

Mock it now, but once you get a decent job look at the paycheck and what is coming out of that. Most of it is going to old people.

Your money is being directly invested in the past. Lucky us.

except the part where they take 1/4? 1/3? 1/2? of your paycheck and give it to people who were unable to provide for themselves.

That's not so funny, is it? You can't invest in your future because other people need your money today.

HA HA HA!

Hell yeah it is!

Disincentives to production are bad economic policy.

It is the historical backbone of the deomcratic party but as you can see the Republicans are equally adept at pandering.

But, Matt, we know that this is just the beginning. So, what we are looking at today is only the larval stage of the monster that will come.

For all Republicans: Republican compromise = Democrat results. You have essentially voted for the Democrat platform.

I get 20% of my income confiscated each paycheck. And I dont make jack shit either so it will only get worse the more I make since this country uses a graduated tax schedule.

Anyone find out what the downside is? I mean what are they taking away from them so they can afford this?

Old people have the most discretionary income of anyone, and really nothing else to spend it on. Many own their own house, sometimes two. They are not going to send anyone through college or go to college themselves. They aren't going to fund breast implants. Many of them can't go on trips as they are too debilitated to walk around. many aren't going to buy new cars since they might not live long enough to pay them off. They have money and nothing else to spend it on-make them buy drugs. Bush wants to get re-elected and is trying to be everyones friend (like giving lots of tax money back) and does not care if he bankrupts the country doing it.

Old people-they are just big children. They poop and pee in their pants. Always have a runny nose and old women always have a snotty tissue in their hands. They get lost and lose their sweaters. They tell the same stories over and over and over again. They stink and don't take baths often enough. They need someone to give them money (allowance) in the form of social security and medicare benefits. They are just like a bunch of 5 year olds, except they aren't cute.

Your attitude disgusts me. They survived the great Depression then turned back fascism. They also did a much better job of running this country than the current crop. They dealt with reality instead of doing drugs and weeping to their therapist. maturity is a good word for their generation.

It should be called the CORPORATECARE law. :(

Basically what this type of legislation does is move money from my possible paycheck and gauruntees more income for health care providers. Man i went into the wrong business.

The old people won't get more or better care, just more expensive drugs.

Matt I understand what you are saying and I agree. I am for the "survival of the fittest" philosophy as well.

HOWEVER, with that being said, what do you do for all the elderly as it exists now who are truly in financial need? Do you just turn your back on them and let millions die (lets face it if you take away funding/medicare won't be able to support themselves)?

I'm all for the 'you and your family' watch after yourselves attitude. However, there are many elderly who don't have families and/or children who aren't in any position (for whatever reason) to help support them. What do you do in this case?

Matt what would your solution be to this problem?

The former generations did accomplish some great measures and were definately of a stronger character than the current wastes of protein, but you cannot accept an immoral concept simply because the person demanding it did some great thing in the past.

Utilizing government to confiscate the earnings of the citizenry for your own benefit is immoral, it legalizes what would be in the real world nothing more than theft.

Those who focus on the positive aspect of social programs such as this, do not focus on the negative aspect of such actions. For every dollar that goes to the great cause of Medicare or welfare or AIDS grants, etc. is a dollar that John Q. Public no longer has to afford to buy a house, to pay for his choice of schooling for his children, to invest in his company, which could hire another worker, to save for his own retirement, to save for his children's college, ad nauseum. Every spending program to a group or cause is a drain on the quality of life that every worker in the country can attain. Money is limited, when it is directed towards one goal it reduces what is available for other goals.

I was not approving of the Medicare bill, just stating my feelings on previous generations and defending them agains malicious attack.

I have a hard time condoning a society that wants to sweep the elderly under the carpet....they ought to be respected and they could be better utilized for employment. They have a very hard time getting hired because people don't want to see sagging skin.

Many elderly are not able to work due to the dependancy of so many on Social Security. Most do not realize that Social Security penalizes one who supplements his/her SS with a part-time/full time job. This grand idea of Social Security being a "savings plan" for retirement is garbage. The reality is that it is welfare for the elderly and it is evident by the penalization of those who wish to continue working. If it truly were "your money" that you were withdrawing, then there would be no such stipulations.

Matt what would your solution be to this problem?

If, after 6 or 7 decades on this earth, you were unable to produce anything to suport yourself, you cannot come to others and say "Give me yours".

My solution would be the summary elimination of social security, Medicare and related programs.

The poor will always be with us. If someone can finish first, then someone can also finish last.
