Maybe I'm old fashioned...

Go ahead and flame me....but I was discussing this with someone the other day and it sparked some anger...nowadays it seems cool to be either liberal, gay/bisexual, or on some kind of drugs....I'm not saying ALL people...and I'm not saying there's anything wrong with being gay...but it seems as if no one gives a shit about morals anymore...it's more accepted and common to be sexually promiscuous and "bad" and if you happen to have morals you are considered a "prude" and actually laughed at...marriage is considered a joke now...50% divorce rate....12 year olds with kids...abortion being used as a form of birth control...people are more concerned with being politically correct than standing up for what's right...sorry if this doesn't make sense but it's more a rant than anything...

I understand where you're coming from, Pink.

However, where you see a lack of morality, I see an openmindedness that's never existed before.

One thing to remember is that morality is relative. I don't think there is anything wrong with being gay or bisexual, and I'm glad that our culture is tolerant enough today to let people choose thier own sexual identities. And while I don't think drug use or promiscuious sex are healthy persutes, I'm also glad that the stigmas attached to both are begining to die out.

Likewise the institution of marrige no longer holds the relevance it once did, and honestly that doesn't bother me much either. I believe that if people choose to be together, they don't need a church or a judge to tell them is ok.

Please don't misunderstand me. I understand where you're coming from. With you being catholic, I'm sure your moral code and mine are quite dissimilar, yet we still manage to find some common ground. Even though I like to tease you, I respect your views on morality - and so do a lot of other people.

So...are we going to get it on, or what? :)

I think like you, but I totaly see where Pink is coming from.

I understand where you're coming from.......

Believe me, I've got two beautiful daughters and it really concerns me what is thrown at them on a daily basis.
We have to actively keep them on track of what I hope is decent morals. Already, the little boys are hanging around the house....I swear to god I'm not going make it......

I think kids grow up too damn fast nowadays........fuck, everything's too fast. Or I'm too slow........lol

But I know what you mean........

I have to agree with Pink, although i can see taps point of view, i have a few problems with society today. First is the rise of STDs and AIDS. We're killing ourselves, and we think its just the lessening of the status quo. Another thing, you don't have to be religious to have morality, some things are just right and wrong, and i tend to think that nailing everything in site is not something i want to teach my children. Just my .02.

your not old fashion
our culture is dying,

and all that is left is a baseless, superficial, abyss of lies deciet, immorality, nad perversion.

all you can do is try to be yourself, and hope that others will gravitate towards you, or follow your example.

unfortunatly this country is bankrupt, spiritually. morally and ethically

and it hard on good people

I have been waiting to hear a girl say this....

True... people should fess up to their actions... but I think one of the great things about this day and age is that people should be able to feel and do what they want without being judged. The worse thing about our society is judging others...

As long as one persons freedom doesn't interfere with anothers enjoyment of their freedom, then we should all just be happy we have these freedoms.

As for your personal lives... it's different. I set myself and the person I am with to a higher standard... drugs, promiscuity, and a few other things (that I have to work on) are out the door... nada... fin... end game... game over... ;)

Ok, I've rambled about this long enough.

C

I'm with you...

I have always had VERY high morals...and even though many people I know do not ...I never let them change the way I feel..

I think it has to do with society...but also with self respect..

when a guy or a girl brags about how many people they slept with...I laugh...and run the other way...to me thats DAMAGED GOODS...

I'll bet you don't even like it in the pooper

A perfect example IMO of the grey area of freedoms and Personal
liberties infringing on each other is:

You are in a public place (store, beach etc) and you see more and more often parents letting thier children(and themselves) running through the store, acting uncivilized or yelling etc.

Sure, people have every right in a public place to act this way, but come on peeps. Don't they care? There is less and less concern for how they are ruining the public peace infringing on my right to enjoy the beach just because they think it's their right..

PinK233,

Being Catholic myself I'm glad to see that most everyone isnt as fucked up as it seems. I alot of people think like you and just dont talk about it with anyone other than family because its just to "conservative".

"One thing to remember is that morality is relative"
in the strictest sense yes, but if you really get down to it everyone is pretty close on this. Dont tell me I'm wrong because Ive been all over the world and about the only thing that people disagree on is the morality of abortions and gay lifestyles. I dont want to make abortion illegal because I dont want girls/women to suffer but if you ever watch an abortion you will think twice, no doubt about it.

Likewise the institution of marrige no longer holds the relevance it once did, and honestly that doesn't bother me much either.
-dont have kids.

I think most organized religion has its ups and downs. While it can be brainwashing most also acts as a guide in life which still works pretty good, even in todays mess and its always been a mess.

umm......yeah, what he said :)

i do often find myself agreeing with the 'right' on some issues, thats why im not necessarily as die hard leftie as i sometimes appear. and i do think society has really fallen in some cases. but i do think this would have happened goven the way the world is evolving, even without leftist policies etc.

but i do respect your opinion....it does sadden me to see all these teenage pregancies, rapings/murderings by child on child, 12 yr old heroin addicts, high divorce rates etc (all relativly common where i spend a lot of time), and i do find myself asking the question whether this liberal attitude to life is ultimately responsible...and i dont think it is

Thanks guys...I just think it comes down to being "politically correct"...like someone had mentioned before, I go to a grocery store and I see kids running wild, while the mother just stands there dumbfounded doing nothing....because she fears if she lays a hand on her child, child protective services will be after her....when I was a kid and acted up my mom would grab my ear and drag my ass across the store! lol...and let me tell you I never did ANYTHING out of line around her....I'm not saying beat your kids, but like I said...old fashioned values have changed and therefore society is changing in a very NEGATIVE manner...kids are freakin shooting up schools now! I'm sure back in the day this was a rare occurence...now it happens at least a few times a year...I'm trying my hardest not to judge anyone, because everyone has their own hardships to bear in life and they have different ways of dealing with it...but some things that happen in this country are just WRONG and people just stand by and accept it...

Where you see an openmindedness i still see bigotry and hate. I also see a lack of respect for personal wellbeing and for others. There is also the destruction of innocence in this world as everything is left to the public arena. I see all of this portrayed beautifully thru the eyes of my 14 year old brother. The trends and pressure put on the youth of america today is an atrocity. Where Alcohol and drug pressures at parties were once the main concern for young teenagers I see sex and stupidity taking its place. Girls dressing like absolute sluts at ages soo much earliar then they had before. Schools are no longer institutions of learning they are a place to socialize with friends and cause mayhem, they have now become like prisons where actual security guards are required....at my old highschool there is a security staff of almost 20 and fights are a daily occurance. Drug deals in bathrooms and gang developement. I do not live in a horribly urban or ghetto area either.

People are less caring, more self indulgent and money is still the king of all happiness. Society as a whole has become a greedy, egotistical monster devouring those who seek change. It is due to the great achievements we have made and the enjoyment of instant gratification. People are becoming inherantly more lazy then they ever were, obesity is growing at a tremendous rate, and noone cares.

i could continue to go on but it would be a waste of cyber-breath

Words from my heart as well!

Great post Pink.:)

It is my belief that this planet is in a moral decline.

it is very sad.

Pink well said. What has society come to when my neighborhood kids are having sex at age 12 and doing heroin? I tried to move away from that shit to a more upscale neighborhood. It's everywhere, the steady decline of morality. I'm scared for my children. I still believe in parental discipline. A spank on the arse will keep them from acting out of control when they are young. I pray that my kids don't have sex until they are responsible 16-17. I could deal with that. I hope they use protection. I educate them on the facts of life. My mom taught me and it kept me out of trouble. I want them to go to college. I don't want them to be teenage daddies or drug addicts with a limited future. God bless our children.

IMO, most of the time parents not doing anything about their kids running wild
is not because they are afraid of anyone, it's because:

they just don't care
they don't see what they are doing as being wrong..

Pink, I agree with you.

Being liberal: I swear they find anything to whine about. They bitch in school about something like a logo on clothing making kids who don't have money feel bad, yet they put up posters of rotting meat in the cafeteria to celebrate vegetarianism.

Gays: Liberals keep bitching that if you don't celebrate it, then you're a homophobe. A very good friend of the family is gay. He just told everyone recently, but I've known him for more than 12 years. Do I care that hes gay? No, not at all. I don't feel uncomfortable around him or whatever.

Kids being younger and having sex: My step-sister is a freshmen in highschool. I swear to Christ that if any guy and her do anything I'll break his legs. And if she didn't consent I'd seriously injure him.

My little cousin is 12-13 and he had a girl up the mountains give him head. The kid can't shoot loads or grow pubes, but hes getting head.

Corporal Pun.: My old man cracked the hell of my legs when I misbehaved. Regardless where it was. I'm thankful for that everyday now. It taught me respect.

Drugs: I can't stand them, don't use them, and never will. My friends that do them know that and respect it. A good friend of mine started smoking weed like once a month a few months back. About 3 months in it became every Friday and Saturday night. Then it became every night. Now hes moving on to E and other shit. While all the while saying hes in control of it, but hes not. He's slowly slipping into the abyss of a constant stoop.

Ironic thing about that is they say kids from broken homes and in the city are more prone to that stuff. He has the exact opposite.

I think some of the people gripping on this thread about morals need to look in the mirror LOL... :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

At least from what I've seen on this chat board :D

Do your part to change things. Go to college, get a job, go to church, pay your taxes, contribute to charity, get married, stay married, have kids, raise them right, set the example.

Oh, and vote republican.

Thanks huntmaster for bumping this!

I agree with Pink and I agree with ttlpkg. Morals and values start home as others have mentioned.

As I stated in another thread, Society is being conditioned slowly to accept everything they once thought was wrong as being the norm! I personally know where I came from and what is wrong and what is right. I might get left behind and then everybody can call me close-minded and a bigot and whatever else they want to. It still will not make me waver as to what I believe and the values and morals I have. I will try my hardest to pass these things down to my two daughters and I pray that they will one day(when I am gone) realize that daddy was right and hold these things dear to their hearts and pass them along as well.

I do know that things change over time and those changes influence us moreso. All I can do as a father is raise my kids to the best of my ability and hope they choose those things that are right for them. If they choose wrong, I hope the learn from it and I hope it makes them stronger and wiser!
