Max OT thoughts and results..

I posted this on the training board, but I thought a few of you guys would be interested.

Ok, 7 weeks ago I decided to give the Max Ot Training system a try. You can find it on www.ast-ss.com. For those that have never seen the program it is rather simple. Sets are 4-6 reps and never vary. Basically you warm up to do 2 or 3 core sets and then you are done with the exercise. Training sessions are around 35-55 minutes and the goal is to overload the muscle and get a pump. Getting a pump plus a muscle burn is bad.

Well, After 7 weeks I can honestly say this program works. I have been dieting, but I have only lost 5 pounds, while increasing strength in all my core lifts and I look much harder than I did 6 weeks ago. I upped my cardio while doing the program, since my work-outs are designed for muscle overload and not muscle fatigue.

It take a lot of discipline to walk away from the squat rack or bench after 3 heavy sets and not dropping down for a burn-out set or a fatigue set, but I am starting to see the benefits of not wasting my time on the fatigue type training. Although the burn feels like you are growing, I am convinced (at least for me) it does not really make you grow.

Just thought I would share this with those who were thinking of giving this program a try.

its an awsome program if your looking to get stronger and bigger,,,if your working out alone your in and out of the gym real quick(almost like a joke) but it did help establish a nice base to work with,,i dont think u can sculpt your body with it,,but i think its ideal for newbies(with strong joints)

i give it two thumbs up in "Z" formation

I am not a newbie to training, but I have always gravitated toward higher reps. One theory that I read once ( not sure where) was whatever works well for you in your first years of training, may work the least 10-12 years later. Since I always loved to do high rep sets when I was a training newbie and I grew I stuck with it. Now 13 years later, high reps do nothing for me.

As far as the joints go. I was sore as hell the first three weeks, but my body has adjusted to the weight. Thank God! One more week of the pain and I would have abandoned it.

It's a fantastic program for both beginners and more advanced individuals... Once you finish the program you can adjsut workouts but still follow the principles (low reps, heavy weight - i changed the amouint of sets and number of exercises though) of it.... That's what im doing right now :)

I've been doing my own variation of Max-OT...in essence I do some none compound exercises that are working for me. The only thing i can say is TAKE A WEEK OFF every 8-10 weeks.

I to have used the Max-Ot program with great results. I went through the program 2 times and am now following casically the same steps just a little more sets because I am on a cycle. It is a great program and they have very detailed info

trained w/ max-OT naturally for 2 yrs...started @ 149 lbs and ended up at 192 lbs w/ approx 15% bf...excellent program if you ask me...in addition,i cycle this prgram and swtch to higher rep based programs every 8 weeks...the changes are amazing to say the least... after following the 4-6 rep range for 2 yrs and then suddenly changing it to 10-12 reps...my body just had a state of 24/7 anabolism.

For the First 6 weeks I followed the program as outlined. For the next 3 weeks I modified it slightly to pair antagonist muscles together. (I like to train antagonist muscles on the same day).

I think if you are dieting this is a perfect program. You can actually lose weight, gain strength and muscle due to the overload principle, rather than the fatigue principle.

As far as the warm-ups I usually follow their prescribed warm-up routine on the first 0ne or two exercises. After that I find the excessive warm-ups a waste of time.

Starting October 14th I am going to add some AS to my training supplements, so it should be interesting. Up until now I have been making gains with this program naturally.

I really like the MAX-OT program as well- intense, short, to the point workouts with a premium based on acquiring size/strength.
You can either work out hard or long - you can't do both.
