What's the best way for a female 5 6 162lbs probably 20%bf to slim down. she works at night, so empty stomach AM cardio is out of question. Is interval cardio training a good idea? The biggest problem for her is to diet so is cytomel w proper dosages and tappering a good idea? Thank you girls

Proper nutrition is #1. It is the best, quickest, most effiecent way to loose BF and "slim down". Without proper nutrition and training, NOTHING will be a "magic" fix. Nutriton should be your biggest "focus", not biggest "problem"

Yeah i know there is no quick fix and that proper diet and exercise are the real deal. She was 170lbs, I got her to 162 already via circuit training and interval cardio training, she seems to be happy... but the thing is I know that if she was willing to go through strict diet she would go far, you know... She has a incredible appetite for carbs, mostly sweets and rice and only stops when her stomach is full.

in that case, all you can do is tell her, in no uncertain terms, that if she wants to lose more weight, that she must sort her diet out. you cant help her unless she is willing to help herself.

Carbs are highly addictive and the more you have it the more your body craves it. She can taper it off slowly. Meaning if she's having 200-250g of carbs (most likely) she can substract 20g at a time or per week. This is a way of life, to it healthy, therefore there shouldn't be any rush. I know we all want to get a fabulous body right away, but if she changes her diet drastically, she'll only have cravings and go righ back to where she started. I used to have 3 meals a day, two of which were pasta, and breackfast was bagel with cream cheese.
It took me quite a while to get where I am. I eat healthy 95% of the time, with the occasional exeption of a cheat meal- not day..

She can do it, but she has to really want it. But it depends of where her focus is. If it's really important to look good and be healthy, she'll find a way to get the discipline.

Diet is HUGE-

I was 160 @ one point &Im around the same height-
She can slowely cut carbs & fasted cardio doesnt have to be in the am-

It can be anytime, your running on empty

Has she tryed appi. suppres? or fat burners?

She must be very muscular- @ 162 & 20% bf..

Yes she is very muscular without even have touched a weight before.! She is the mesomorphus type, with a x-frame, big natural breasts and when she gains fat it's proportional: arms, legs, waist, back, face. She has tried fat burners in the past, currently she is on a ephedra-based one. Thanks for all replies so far

If she is naturally muscular, she should be able to burn fat like a machine. Train her to build muscle, feed her to build muscle. Watch the fat drop then.

That has crossed my mind already... In fact today I had her made power upper body circuit w 8-10 rep range. But do u think it would be better if she did regular bodypart training hitting the same group twice/week throughout 4 days?
Ex
Mon Upper b interval cardio
Tue Lower b light cardio
Wed Interval Cardio and abs
Thu Upper b light cardio
Fri Lower b interval cardio

Thanks

IMHO, is best to train a bp once a week or you'll be overtained, which is counter productive..

I agree. If you train properly, training each bp once a week is good.

This is great advice, she is not going to change to a healthy diet overnight if she is used to eating simple carbs and goodies.

In addition to having her just cut out a small amount of 'rubbish' carbs/week, have her switch to sweets or different carbs, so have HER starting to look for the whole wheat option/ezekiel bread.

Also, advice her not to eat anything that has glucose, glucose syrup, dextrose etc in it, but if it is sweetened with apple juice, grape juice, honey, barley malt, rice syrup, maple syrup (not refined if possible), agave syrup, date syrup, evaporated cane juice (you can also buy a lot of these on their own as sweetners).

They are all still sugar, but less refined, possibly have a few more good things in them, sometimes not as sweet, and a good way to wean yourself off sugar.

Sugar is a tough one to get off.

What is her fat intake like?

Well about fats it's mostly salad dressing, ranch and italian, nothing much. it's really the carbs' sugars and the need to fill up her stomach. I've been thinking about giving her a fish oil supps, what do u think?

Read the ingredients on the dressings and then tell me they are not full of rubbish.

There is nothing wrong with eating oils and some fats.

I would highly recommend that she starts making her own dressings, a bit of olive oil, balsalmic vinegar and some Italian herbs.

You really don't get the same sort of saity/satisfaction from supplements.

If you don't change your taste buds and eating habits to CRAVE healthy foods, it is easy to fall off the wagon.

Other sources of healthy fats:

Seeds: pumpkin, sunflower, sesame, flax, hemp

Nuts: Brazil nuts, walnuts, almonds, hazelnuts

Another option for her sweet cravings: fruit, any sort of fruit, right now while so many things are in season is a GREAT time to be eating things like blueberries, strawberries, cherries.............

She should be tappering the carbs throughout the day right?, the last two meals shouldn't be have carbs or at least to the minimum...

We're all going around in circles. It's best if you can post her diet; I mean exactly what she eats and when or we'll be speculating. That'll be the best way to help her.

^^^^^All the answers are right there^^^^^^^

All her meals that I tell her to do consist of a source of protein (mostly chicken breast) , vegetables and some healthy fats like olive oli at least 3 times a day and a protein shake. The thing is the cravings I told you guys before. I try not give her many carbs bcause I know she will mess it up later... I need tips of how to manipulate the carbs cause i think the protein intake is high enough. Anyway i think all the advices you guys gave me are great and logical. I will start applying the workout tips morning.

Hi Saibotica,

I'm sorry to persist on this, but you're saying her protein is high enough and her carbs need to go down. However, we don't know if that's the case unless you list it. For example:

Meal #1 2 eggs and 3 slices of toast 7am (I'm using this high fat/carb diet b/c you mentioned her diet to be similar)
Meal #2 protein powder 9am
Meal #4 Breast of checken with a salad. 3 tbls of italian dressing.
Meal #5 1/2 cup of pasta with tomato sauce.

See what I mean? We have no idea what she's eating, except in general that she eats too much carbs.

BTW, she'll need to eat plenty of carbs in order for her to have energy and burn calories. However, it needs to be good carbs.

I'm happy to list a diet sample for her, but I need to know EXACTLY what she eats and the time she eat. How far apart her meals are..

There is a big difference between what you tell her to do and what she actually does, even with the best intentions.

My coach gave me a diet, did I follow it exactly?

Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

Did it put me behind in comp prep?

Yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeesssssssssssssss

There is this funny thing with some people, that as soon as you tell them what to do, they dig their heels in and resist, even if they know in their heart of hearts it is the best thing for them.

That could make it a whole lot easier or just a bit of a recipe for disaster.

I do think that training together can be great, but the diet thing?

OMG, brave man, it is great you are supporting her in her goals.

Is there any reason she is not posting for herself?
