well i watched a documentary about them. they were just talking about how they grew up in a shitty neighbourhood without any tennis clinics etc. over here at least if u got money your ass is put into a tennis clinic, basically a place where people pay a fair amount of money for tennis coaching. from what ive eard/seen they learnt all of their play knowledge from their father.

their father also saw them as a financial opportunity. its one of the many reasons i dont like him. something i found funny was you know those signs he pulls out in games and stuff....well in their training camp hen lays signs out everywhere with stuff like 'serena, remember to do such and such etc.'....and he continues this psychological shit right up into the game. thats another reason...

really....well i might be mistaken. i just remember how there father talked about how they grew up in a shitty area and how the practised in shitty places. but then if he showed they had enough talent, im sure a county club would snap them up.

another reason i hate richard williams....he criticised our lawn tennis assoc. for not recruiting from the ghettos....so the LTA spends many $$ setting up a scheme which he said he would be happy to oversee, when it finally gets set up, he demands $200,000 a year minimum.....what a shit head. in the end a black FOOTBALLER had to run it

danielson.....there is a big difference between playing on shitty weed-infested courts (Compton) and not being allowed to play on "nice" courts. Their attitudes suck because of the dad, but if I was turned away because of my color from playing certain courts or golf courses
(T Woods) I would probably have a fked attitude too. Fortunately for T Woods, he doesn't have a idiot for a dad. Hingis? what the fuck has she done lately? except bitch...she needs to get a tennis game...her attitude sucks and she's never had to play in fucked up places, I'd bet money on it. I believe you misunderstood my statement/question. I was simply looking for some sort of reference to his claim, if I implied something other than that, well I apologize I suppose.

When you make a claim like that, I expect you to be able to have evidence. I, for one, have no idea where she grew up, so why would I make the assumption she was from a good/bad upbrinbging?

Did you see the Martina Hingis documentary also or are you making an assumption that she grew up with everything "gifted" to her. To say that "all are rich and stuck up" is quite a stereotype. She may be rich and stuck up now but what about growing up?

I seriously doubt that. To assume that 2 of the best players in the world had no coaching other than their father is ridiculous. This is probably what the father has publicy said because he is a selfish bastard.

Most of the tennis population boo's the Williams sisters because they have a horrible attitude 99% of the time. Just listen to a post match interview, its tough to get one of them to crack a smile, its like they are too good for anyone. John Macenro recently made statements about their attitude and he was labled a racist also.

venus and serena grew up in compton but they DID spend some of their early teen years at tennis academies in florida due to their early ability and potential.

richard williams is an ass, but i've gotta' give him some props for helping to market his daughters into mega-stars (venus just signed a 40 million dollar contract with reebok).

i'm not a big fan of the williams girls, but i think they're clearly "classier" and "better behaved" than so many professional athletes coming from similar backgrounds. they've got attitude, but there's never been even a hint of a scandal or anything in their personal lives.

hingis' points were valid, but this society is so PC that she gets lambasted for pointing out the obvious...that the williams' race has helped them gain endorsements. who can deny that? their accomplishments are no better than lindsay davenports (who also has 3 grand slams and even attained the #1 ranking) yet their endorsement income dwarfs lindsay's. and it's not like either venus OR lindsay is nice to look at.....
 
I don't agree with what Martina Hingis said about the Williams sisters, but I wouldn't call her a racist. The Williams sisters have made it big relying on their talents, they didn't get any free lunches because they're black. And so what if their father is a jerk? He ain't playing tennis ain't he?

maybe....but if you looked at their training grounds, he is the over-seer here....hes too shrewd to let anyone else coach them for fear of losing his financial investments. they showed a typical training session, he seemed to be in charge.

IMO, Everyone is a racist to some extent in some way or another.
Either they hate certain races or feel uncomfortable around certain racial stereotypes or behaviors.
I will admit to being a little uncomfortable around certain types of people and their skin color usually has little to do with it.
Fir me it comes down to them being very different from me and therefore I don't understand them.
Sometimes feel uncomfortable but fortunately, I understand why I feel this way and can work to get to know them better If I want.
The williams sisters came onto the primarily Anglo tennis world and some people felt they were different than them and therefore should not be accepted.
The sisters also didn't help much with the Tude they showed back to the Anglo's in return...
