Martha Stewart gets 5 months in Prison

Not really. All the legal experts was saying it was a given she was going to do some time. They were saying 6-12 months. Now if she just pled guilty in the 1st place she would have just gotten probation.

5 months prison, followed by 5 months house arrest to run concurrent with 2yrs probation.

she's been hit in the pockets as well as getting jail time.

The funny part is...Imclone is trading higher than when she panicked and tried to sell. she should have just held out or offset her loss against any capital gains.

There is going to be some serious fights over who's bitch she'll be.
She's going to jail, why aint more enron fucks in jail?

Ken Lay will serve zero time if Bush wins.

what kind of fucked up world do we live in where we have to imprison martha stewart for doing something we would've all done if we were in the same place as her.

My brother.

Insider trading goes on constantly....it's neverending. Picture a state patroleman sitting by the side of your local interstate and watching an endless flow of cars speeding and arbitrarily picking out one in the pack to nail. One car, going no faster or slower than the rest, gets stopped. No I'm not suggesting what she did was excusable, but I do take acception to the suggestion by the authorities and the media hype that this is some sort of rare, outrageous behavior. BULLSHIT. She was part of the giant gaggle of speeders but she happened to be driving a red 911 so the cop noticed her.

True... but it is definetly more deplorable than speeding....

AND..... it was lying to the investigators that really put the nails in her coffin...

Insider trading is a very large reason that 80% of mutual funds, which are managed by pros, get outperformed by the DJIA.

Many investors will tell brokers that they will not buy without inside information. Highly illegal but their Porsche is not red I suppose.

5 months has to be the shortest federal sentence on record.

... if she was a minority I can bet more people would've seen it as a major crime...not to mention she would've had to serve more than just 5 months.

I was impressed at how she used the media coverage frenzy to appeal to her customers to help restore her company.

She and her empire will be bigger than ever in a few years.

I was also impressed.

She is wily and unflappable.

Yes, now if she were a politician or a president she would have learned how to get out of it by saying "I have no recollection of that..."

she's got the best lawyers money can buy.

She'll appeal this til kingdom come. In the end, it'll be thrown out as a mistreal on a technicality. I doubt she'll even spend a day in jail.

It's very easy to dwiddle down through negotations a 3 month sentence. Perhaps a $5 million donation to charity, community service, etc. It's not like she's facing 12 years.

Woah.. that maybe being a little over senstive... shit OJ didn't even go to jail for what he did.

I don't think race made a bit of difference, or would have had her race been different. When you are as rich and as well known as martha.... you are raceless... you are in a whole new class....

What color is Oprah again?

I think you have to be married to get conjugal visits....besides, who'd wanna conjugate Martha? :)

I could not agree more. Money trumps race any day.

And despite the fact that Martha became infamous for being quite a difficult person, I dont think that had any effect on her prosecution.

What the hell has this world come to where Martha Stewart gets sentenced for 5 months for doing something that did not really hurt anyone else??? There are much more important crimes, REAL crimes, going on that everyone should be focusing on.... not fuckin Martha Stewart of all people!! Sure she won't serve the majority of her sentence, but the fact they are even wasting time and resources on this is ridiculous.
