Marijuana and The Bodybuilder

I posted this question in another thread but noone really had any specific input. Exactly what effects does marijuana have on the bodybuilder? I understand not to smoke preworkout but what are all the positive and negative effects of smoking marijuana habitually and weighttraining at the same time? (it sure helps with bulking though!)
 
Not sure how it affects you physically (aside from in your brain and that it dialates blood vessels in a very nice way). I recall a study saying it increases estrogen but that may be bs.

Speaking as a long term weed smoker, I can tell you that it is hell on the diet. It may be the strains I have had lately that have given me monstrous munchies, but I finally went off it this weekend to get my weight down. Unless you use a vapourizer or a water bong, it is taking a toll on your lungs as well.

Bottom line is that if you are getting to where you want in your training and your doctor doesn't hear something strange when you breathe in and out, keep doing what you're doing. It is a helluva lot better than drinking alcohol. Your doctor will confirm that.
 
Thanks hc73, Im interested to know if anyone has anymore input in this topic seeing as how im very serious about my bodybuilding so i want to make sure im not TOO ADVERSELY impacting my gains.
 
dude i have been smoking weed and workin out religiously for over 2 years.....

i dont even enjoy drinking anymore.....alcohol WILL lower your test levels, marijuana has NO effect on testosterone levels.......and because you dont smoke it as much as cigs i havent found at all that it slows my cardio down a bit.....

weed actually speeds up your metabolism.......but its not significant enough as eating 6 times a day

the only drawback i have had in the past with weed is that i get so damn hungry when im high.....and its hard not to pig out.....but if you train yourself to just keep the munchies to a minimum, you wont even be that hungry when u smoke.....(drink alot of water when stoned, you get your daily water supply in and it keeps you from munching)

Weed as well as alcohol and cigarettes do play havac on vitamins. especially b complex and C.
So a supplementation of these will be needed.
 
There is a famous study done on monkeys and marijuana. One monkey went clinically insane or something... a wierd outlier... but the only long major term side effect noted was on motivation, the inhibition of it.

For me, weed makes me f up my clean diet, and makes feel like I am not in 100% control of my situation, which is a feeling I find I don't quite like.

For many lifters, it is a great, even essential, part of their lifestyle.

If you enjoy it, if it doesn't stop you from reaching your goals, and you can fit it into your lifestyle, there is no reason not to do it.

Personally, it's just not compatible with my goals in the gym and in life, so I keep it to all but the rarest of occasions, hopefully one day even less.
 
once and a while is ok sometimes before I work out I can really get in the zone but it is still better to be sober.
