It's gonna weaken sharply here once that dry air over Texas starts feeding into the rotation. I wonder if a hurricane gets big enough and wound tightly enough it'll have a barred appearance?

I can't come up with one either except maybe the earth's atmosphere doesn't contain enough water vapor to create a storm that large.

Actually, I think the whole reason we evolved into sentient beings was to prevent our own destruction. We are the first organism to have the ability to thwart a local cosmic event. Whether we have that ability at the moment is up in the air. But we are the first to try.
