There are two distinct levels to Personal Training
which are important for people to realize, the level
where you are "in the trenches" training hourly
clients, and then once you've achieved mastery, the
level where you look to reach a wider audience with
different products and services -
I call that second phase THE JUMP - it's an important
idea and I made it the subject of a recent newsletter
which I'll share here -
Underground Newsletter: MAKING THE JUMP
THE JUMP - that's what I call it when you're looking to
make the leap beyond independent training - it's a stage
that we're all going to face at some time ...
In the recent CELEBRITY TRAINER blog post (which if you
haven't read already, you can find here:
http://super-trainer.com/), we described how getting in
the media isn't as hard as a lot of people think, and in fact
the media NEEDS us to give them fresh content to shove
down their viewers throats on a daily basis -
But this is just one tiny step beyond what's necessary
for us as TOP-LEVEL TRAINERS -
It's the beginning of THE JUMP ...
THE JUMP is when your independent training practice
starts to turn into "SOMETHING ELSE" -
You can do A LOT as a trainer before you decide to
take this next step -
You can have a full roster of clients paying you a lot
of money, elite clients, and even have an assistant or
an employee, run small groups if that's your thing, and
get into the top 10% of wage earners in this country
in general -
We're not downplaying any of that -
BUT if you're like me, I know you want something MORE -
as human beings, we want to make MORE OF AN IMPACT
and REACH MORE PEOPLE with ideas and services that
have already proven to be successful, and reach our
next level of financial goals -
THAT'S WHAT I CALL "THE JUMP" - it's taking that next
step -
Even though Doug Murphy pursues his media coverage
while still at the level of independent trainer, getting all
of this media coverage should really be considered part
of the NEXT step -
Because once you do get that kind of coverage, you'll
be able to BREAK OUT and do new and different things -
And whatever that JUMP is for you is your decision - it
could be ANYTHING -
- it could be opening a training facility
- it could be getting into trainer education
- it could be opening a gym
- it could be tailoring to a specialized population like
athletes
And about a million other areas of the health, fitness,
and wellness industry which you can probably figure
out on your own -
THE JUMP is something outside of the scope of SUPER-
TRAINER, even though we do end up giving it a lot of
attention in the interviews with the major trainers that
come on here - obviously, they've all made THE JUMP -
The important thing to consider when making this next
move is timing and readiness - it's got to be on your own
terms, and when you're ready for it -
If you'll look around you, you'll notice that most people
look to make big leaps like this from a position of
weakness or desperation -
A lot of people are looking to expand and do a hundred
new things, but they haven't even achieved mastery at
the little things yet - I'm not accusing, here; if you read
my story in THE WHISTLEBLOWER REPORT, you know I
can relate!
But once you HAVE explored your interests, pursued
them, and achieved some level of mastery (whatever
that means to you), then it's your time to look around
and find out what the next BIG step is for you -
Reminds me of a conversation I had today with a buddy
of mine - he was talking about all his ideas in the fitness
industry, but I reminded him get THIS (independent
training) right first -
Once you've got some money coming in, the free time
to think, and the time to get mastery and really "know"
what you know, then by all means take that next step -
This might have all sounded like mindless rambling, but
I just wanted to make that distinction here right now -
that one day you'll be looking to take this training thing
to a new height in the fitness industry ....
But get this independent training thing handled first -
Thanks for reading and I'd love to get your feedback
either through email or on the blog itself - if you lost the
address, here it is again: http://super-trainer.com/ -
And if you're tired of hearing me rant or have given up
on training and don't want to read these newsletters
anymore, just reply to this message -
Talk to you soon!!!
